Barcelona July 17-21st
Thursday July 17th: Day one we left the house at 3:30 to make it to the bus which left at 4 am to London for our 8 am flight. After arriving in Barcelona, we went straight to the hotel to shower and change. Unfortunately our hotel was not ready so we got a beer in the lobby and waited to get our room key. About an hour later we went up to the room, which had a beautiful view of Catalunya, a little city in southern Barcelona. Adam and I went to the beach to try to find the rest of the group but were unsuccessful so just walked the beach and went in the water. On the way back we found our friends at the metro station who were going to get a sandwich from a local shop that our friend Maya who has spent her whole summer in Barce, recommended. It ended up being really good and our go to spot the rest of the trip. That night we went to a club called Shoko that is right on the beach where a cool DJ played and we stayed out until late. After leaving we played volleyball on the beach with a ton of people and then climbed a jungle gym until well into the morning. When we arrived back at the hotel it was about time to hit breakfast and everyone was there. After breakfast we went to our room for a very needed night of sleep with a full stomach.
Friday July 18th: The second day we woke up and decided to go to the beach with our huge group and hung out all day where the weather was awesome. After we went back to the hotel to get ready for the night and take a siesta (nap. We ended up going to a club called Opium where I lost my friends and ended up having to try to get home by myself. Trying to find a metro station to take a train home, a group of guys took my phone, ID and some money. It was a scary and unfortunate event but theft is huge and I should have been more careful. About six out of the fifteen people we were with had something stolen so luckily it wasn't my whole wallet like what happened to some people. In the end it is just a phone and I didn't want to let some stupid event ruin the rest of my trip and how I feel about Barcelona.
Saturday July 19th: The third day was definitely the best day we had. We went to a Labyrinth park, which was an awesome grass maze that people can walk through. Once in the middle there is a cool statue and benches to sit on. After the maze you can walk to the top of the parque and look out on a pretty cool view with forest all around you. After that we went to the store to get picnic stuff and took a train and bus to the very top of Barcelona. We made sandwiches had crackers and cheese and drank wine on top of the Bunkers de Carmel which had a 360 degree view of the entire city. It was easily the most beautiful view I had ever seen in my life. We stayed there for a couple hours just taking pictures and playing games with a huge group of us. That night Maya took us to this tiny little bar where they let you pour your own drinks (dangerous) and have as much popcorn as you want. Safe to say it turned into a drunken popcorn throwing party and we tipped them a ton just for putting up with us. We took pictures with the little old lady that owned the place and she was happy that we loved her little bar so much. After that we headed to a really cool salsa club where they played everything from salsa music, to reggae, and even some hip-hop. Only thing that would have made it better is if there was country music! It ended up being a super fun night just dancing, meeting locals and being with all our friends.
Sunday July 20th: On our last full day we went to the really famous cathedral in Barcelona that has been being built for over 100 years. From the viewpoint we could see it and it was huge but not compared to when we were up close. It was absolutely beautiful and massive. The biggest place of worship I have ever seen, until the Vatican in a few weeks maybe. After that we went to a famous park that has a really long bench that everyone takes pictures on. It ended up being a cool view of the city and we got some pictures of it before walking around the park and eventually heading back to the hotel. That night a famous DJ named Benny Banassi played at a club called Razzmatazz. Woah, it ended up being a weird circus night where every dancer with a tranny and midgets were striping and it got weird. We had a really big group of us that helped us deal with the weirdness but we ended up leaving pretty early cause we had an early flight to catch the next morning and were already exhausted from the previous few nights. We did Barcelona right and although there were some phone causalities we had a great time and Europe wouldn't have been complete with a Spanish excursion.
