Friday 8/1: We arrived early in Berlin and took the metro to our hostel, the first one I had ever stayed at. It was a lot different than I thought it would be and was very interesting to have that experience for the first time. We had a four-person room with Adam, Tori, and I with a random person so we did not know what to expect. We decided to get a Doner Kebab, which is big in Berlin before taking the bus to a bike tour place in Alexandria Square. We took a bike tour which showed us sites like Checkpoint Charlie, Brandenburg Gate, Berlin Wall, a cool beer garden, Hitler's bunker and a bunch more. We felt as if we saw the entire city with the tour. Our guide told us the best clubs to hit that night and how to get there. We ended up going to a club called Picknick, which was in this huge old house. It looked like something out of a scary movie. The backyard was massive with a fire pit and another dance floor and ended up being a really cool spot. We stayed for a while before we went back to the hostel to sleep for a long day in the city.
Saturday 8/2: We woke up early to take a walk to East Gallery, which is a super cool part of the Berlin Wall. But before we went to a German restaurant to get some authentic food. When I say German I mean the type of restaurant that wouldn't serve us water but only liters of beer. Can't say I was complaining, but he laughed when we tried to get anything smaller than a liter. We got to the wall and there was a ton of graffiti on it and cool artsy work that we took some pictures of. We tried climbing the wall, which is far from easy, and I have no idea how some Germans did it. They would have to climb a wall, be in the middle and hop another wall without getting caught, nearly impossible. It really is like Berlin is two different cities when looking at the East side and West side. We walked around and ended up at a huge park that we sat at for a little while. It was nice to sit down and rest for a couple minutes before going back to hostel. We drank a couple beers at the bar in the hostel and just hung out that night because we had an early train the next morning. It ended up being a short trip to Berlin, but Germany was definitely a cool place to see.
