Quito has been a lot of fun if not the most culturally enriching period in my travels. I have been watching lots trashy gameshows in the hostel such as the American version of The Price is Right, which I would recommend if you enjoy watching overexcited Americans jumping around a brightly coloured studio. Shame as Quito is renowned for having beautiful colonial buildings and I have yet to venture more than ten blocks from the hostel.
One excursion that I did make was to the equator line only an hour by bus from Quito. In fact there are two equators here, the first one (the fake equator) was where they originally thought the equator was. It´s a bit odd as there is a large building to celebrate this failure and many tourists taking pictures of themselves thinking they are straddling north and south. We went to the real equator afterwards and saw all the experiments with water and balancing an egg on the end of a nail. Afterwards, I headed back to the southern hemisphere with a nostalgic longing for the north, lucky that there was free rum and coke to brighten the mood.
