The trip from National Park down to Wellington was fairly eventful, there were police with guns looking for a 'dodgy looking couple'. I tried my best not to look dodgy when they searched the bus. I also won a box of beer which is fantastic except I dont drink beer! The hostel was good with a free meal every night - Hurrah I dont have to cook again! Halloween the hostel held a fancy dress eating competition. I was surprised at how many people were willing to eat Lambs brains and chicken hearts. It made me feel quite ill just watching them.
On my last night in Wellington I met up with Dugan a Magic bus driver I had met in prison in Napier. Somehow I got roped in to washing his bus, although he did buy me dinner so it was a fair swap. The ferry crossing to the South Island was nice and smooth although I did develope a nasty cough and cold which I took to Saff and Liams and passed on to them. After a few days with the Adams family I got picked up by Prince on the Stray bus and taken to Old McDonalds farm on the edge of the Abel Tasman National Park. Prince kindly introduced me when I got on the bus " Ok guys this is the stripper, her name is Candy"
Abel Tasman is gorgeous, I went sailing for the day and rather optimistically put a bikini on under about 6 other layers. The highlight of my stay at Old McDonalds was when me and a couple of other girls got to go out in an Outrigger canoe (a canoe with stabilizers) in the dark with Mark and Chris (two locals). After paddling about in the river and crashing in to a tree (it was very dark) we took it out on the ocean in search of phospheresence. It was amazing, a green plancton that glows and sparkles when it gets disturbed. We spent about an hour paddling round in the pitch black watching the water light up with trails of green light where our oars had been.
Next stop Barrytown (population 40) what are we going to do here? I tell you what we did, we got exceedingly drunk. Deano was our barman chosen especially for the job because he is good at getting drunk. He started by pouring 8 shots for 5 people so I got an extra one (I am getting the hang of them now). I had a go at working behind the bar where I got more free shots, then the dressing up boxes came out....men in dresses everywhere. I had a wig and a pair of childs dungarees on. I remember dancing on the tables and generally having alot of fun until I fell asleep on the bar and was sent to bed. There I threw up into a bucket....how my room mates laughed...NOT! One of them helpfully suggested I should 'go to the bathroom'. All this fun and I only spend $20 (less than a tenner)
In the morning I woke up with a dollar stuck to my arse which Prince found highly amusing. Once again he announced it to the bus 'and what that means guys is that Jacki owes someone 80 cents' Cheek!!!! I went and did some bone carving sporting a rather large hang over and came out with something half decent. Think I may come back to Barrytown for New Year, it may only be small but Deano knows how to throw a party!
