Viva Las Vegas. This week I have been mostly gatecrashing someone's honeymoon. Actually it could have been worse because at one stage Wendy did say I could crash in their room. I decided against it!
Well I got on the plane all excited but that soon wore off when the captain informed us that we needed to wait for the brakes to cool and worse case scenario we may have to abort the take off! Too much information me thinks! Luckily the flight went without a hitch and I got the shuttle to my hotel (The Luxor) at the other end. The hotel room was huge (everything is in America) with 2 double beds for little old me! This was a bit of a contrast to the hostel where I am sure in a room that size I would have been sharing with 15 other people. I decided to venture out and soon I got approached by a young man. I agreed to go for a quick drink with him and it wasn't long before he asked if he could come to my hotel room! He tried to persuade me with the simple phrase 'what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas!', Dream on Pal! Anyway I decided not to take him up on his lovely offer which is when he said the romantic words 'what if I offer you money'.....or words to that effect! Well hooker was not the look I was going for so needless to say we parted company pretty much at that point.
The following day I wondered round a few of the Casinos and got chatting to a couple of Australians who had been living in Northampton (Ken and Matt). I ended up spending the rest of the day with them and then meeting up in the evening for a couple of drinks. Well in reality I managed to fit in more than just a couple of drinks and I rolled it a 9am the following morning straight from the bar. Its the lighting in them places, you lose track of time. I knew things were gonna get messy when the first drink was ordered.... a pint of snake bite and black with a neat vodka chaser! Anyone who has been out drinking with me knows I am a lightweight but I drank it all down and didnt have the same drink twice in a row! Hurrah in Vegas I am a party animal!
The following day I didn't feel very well (probably the cheap buffet a Circus Circus?) so I spent a huge proportion of it in bed. In the evening I went to meet Ken for a soft drink (thats all I could face) and a bit of a flutter. I played Craps and coincidentally that pretty much describes my luck! I also played roulette and lost on that, my gambling career was short!
Wednesday was a very early start 5:30am for a breakfast trip to the Grand Canyon by helicopter! I love helicopters it turns out! The view was incredible but even when I was in the Canyon I still found it hard to take in just how huge it is. In the evening I met up with Wendy and Ian and we went to Madam Tussauds. I am not sure whether it is possible to stalk a wax work but if it is I am expecting a restraining order through from Johnny Depps people anyday now. I met Elvis and both Wendy and I donned wedding dresses and married George Clooney! I married him first though and I think she may have been on the rebound. If I could have got away with it I would have carried Johnny Depp to the chapel and married him too! Following my adventures with the dummies (the wax works not Wendy and Ian) we went and had cocktails. It seems all the hotels in Vegas are experts in Bloody Marys ... a drink with a side salad in it!
I had a great time in Vegas, it was great to see Wendy and Ian. My favourite show was the dancing fountains at the Bellagio which gave me goose bumps every time. The hotels are out of this world and everyone is on Jacki time where it doesnt matter what the time is! I recommend a short stay there to everyone.
