This week I have mostly been becoming an AUNTIE!!!!!!!!! Congratulations to Lorraine and Dan and welcome to Chloe!
Having left the ranch my next port of call was to be Boulder to stay on a friend of a friends sofa. Fran was at work when I arrived and John was out of town but they had kindly arranged for me to pick a key up from a neighbour so that I could let myself in and make myself at home. Very trusting I thought until I realised she had a vicious guard dog called Abi, a beagle who wagged her tail in a threatening manner when I arrived!
The following day Fran took me to Chautauqua Park which is at the foothills of the mountains under rocks called the Flatirons overlooking Boulder. I was a little bit concerned when I saw the bear proof bins but the walk was lovely and I saw loads of flowering cactus. Afterwards we went to the 'walking mall' where we had some lunch an people watched. Boulder town centre has a really nice feel about it. It has lots of independent shops and its clean and feels safe. Went in one shop which had the perfect badge for me 'Domestically Disabled'! Once again I have landed on my feet as Fran has a pool so we finished off the day with a dip.
The following day while Fran attended a business meeting I went and practiced having lunch by myself in a nice restaurant. I chose 'The Cheesecake Factory' and thats right I had......pasta! It was really quite posh with proper cloth napkins and heavy cutlery! It was here that I got the call from my dad to tell me I was an Auntie. I started to well up which is kind of embarrassing when sat in a restaurant on your own, although Fran later assured me that showing your emotions in public in Boulder is positively encouraged! In the afternoon we took a drive up in to the mountains to a place called Nederland, its a kind of hippy town with chrystal shops and tie dye. The drive was gorgeous running through a canyon with a river running next to the road and pine trees covering the mountain.
On Wednesday the temperature plummeted to a chilly 75 degrees and I tried capers on a pizza and actually liked them! Who knew?
On Thursday I decided I was going to walk to Boulder town Centre which is about 5 miles from Fran and John's appartment. In the 100 degree heat I took the precaution of forgetting to take any water with me . Well its never an issue in England as you always walk past various corner shops on the way to town, its not like that here! I walked passed a field with loads of Prairie Dogs in it, these are little animals that look a bit like sand coloured ferrits and squeak like Gordon the Goffer (dont think I spelt that right but hey ho my brains on holiday!). Having walked for miles and miles and hours and hours I consulted the map which I had cleverly put away only to find out I had probably walked about half a mile past the place I was heading for!!! 'Shoot!' is not the word I said on discovering this!! I treated myself when I did finally arrive in Pearl Street with the best fish and chips I have ever had, although they may have tasted better because I was STARVING.
Friday I rested my feet and Fran, John, their friend Dave and I went out in the evening. I forgot my ID and was very insulted when no one asked for it or refused to serve me! I have discovered that Vodka tastes better with American lemonade (this really is a journey of discovery). We moved to a roof top bar with a roof on it??? Dave recalled when he met our mutual friend Liz, I think his exact words were "I only met her once and she talked about her knickers alot", anyone that knows Liz will not be surprised by this! This was my last night in Boulder and in a spectacular show of confidence Dave asked me if I was flying to my next destination or was I going to 'attempt to drive', thanks Dave! In answer to your question I am going to attempt to drive!
