I realized its been a while since I have written in here, so I wanted to make an update! The last few weeks have been pretty hectic, but really fun. After our Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, we had a few days of work and then our first day of Parent-Teacher conferences. It was really fun and interesting getting know the parents of my students, and learn a little more about the families that are living here in Beijing. For two Fridays in a row the students didn't come into school, which made the weeks seem really short. This past week was our first full week in a while, it was crazy how long the week felt!
The pollution at the beginning of this week was pretty crazy, and I realized how much I really love blue-sky days here in Beijing! The weather has started to turn a little cooler here, and it's really making me miss Fall in Michigan. I wish there was an apple orchard or cider mill around somewhere! :) We may go into the mountains in the next few days though, because I have been told that there are some places where you can pick fruit and have a semi-apple orchard experience. Maybe we will do that soon!
The past few weekends have been really fun as well. We went to an area called San Latun here in Beijing (which is a pretty westernized area full of expats) and had our first look at Beijing nightlife. It was fun seeing a different side of Beijing. While we were at the bar there was a live band and they even had college football on! The Michigan game was on (vs Eastern), which came on at Midnight, it felt very strange to be seeing American sports in the middle of China. We met a few nice people while we were out, and even got some dancing in!
Last weekend, we went to the same place and tried to watch the MSU game but they couldn't find it on the tv, so maybe we will try again this weekend! While we were out, we did meet some fun guys from Khazikstan, and we had a fun time just listening to music, playing pool and playing 20 questions! :)
This week at school was fun, but everyone was really looking forward to the weekend because starting today we have a full week of for the Chinese National Holiday. This morning I was up at 8 am (8 pm back in the States) to watch the Tigers play their first play off game against the Yankees! Larissa and I met some other teachers from 3e at a bar/restaurant called Franks. It is open 24/7/365 and plays all sorts of sports games from around the world. It's a very popular place, I'm a big fan. Unfortunately, the Tiger's game was postponed until tomorrow because of rain which was disappointing, but we did spend some time watching the Australia/Russia rugby game. The rugby world cup is going on right now, and it was fun just to be around sports fans! It was a great atmosphere :)
This Monday we'll be going to Shanghai until Thursday which I am really excited about! We leave Monday morning on the bullet train and will get into Shanghai around noon. We have a room in Shanghai until Thursday, so it will be really fun to see another big city in China! I will be going with Larissa, Melissa and Linda and I think it will be a good amount of time to get away for a vacation. I'm not really sure what to expect from Shanghai, but I think it will be a great time! When we get back on Thursday it will be nice to still have a few days to just relax before we head back to work. Hopefully I will have a ton of fun stories from our trip.
I hope all is well back in the US, I am so excited that I have been able to talk to so many people either on the phone or through Skype and Facebook. I am looking forward to Christmas back in the States more and more, it will be so nice to see my family and friends! Sending my love from Beijing .. ♥
