Sadly Jackie does not have internet connection again tonight ( perhaps shes staying in a Mud hut)
Today she completed what is said to be the hardest day
I will include a text I had from here this afternoon ( they are 3 hours ahead of us)
It said..........
That was the hardest and most awful day I have ever had. Did 14k but had full blown panic attack as I ran out of water and was 12.30pm - long story but not my fault - am ok now but needed doc aa collapsed.
That is 14k of the mountain - did the rest of today's ride as well obviously only missed last 9 of the escarpment
They covered 85 kms in total today. That means Jackie did 23 km of the hill climb............ brilliant achievement
so what's in store for her tomorrow.......
There are to options, the decision on which one will be decided by road conditions
If there is no rain they will do the following
Up to lunch time it will be very hilly tarmac roads which undulate through plantations and farms with steeper hills when the reach Kapsabet. after lunch its on a dirt track into a rainforest towards Kakamega
However if there has been rain they will continue on tarmac for another 31 km after lunch
This make a total of 92 kms tomorrow
And they said today was the hardest day !!!!!!
Jackie is doing brilliant, Well done girl.
Phil
As Jackie has not had internet conection here is an update
Wednesday will be Jackies hardest day...
Its a 85 km ride crossing the Kerio Valley then climbing the Elgeyo escarpment.
The ride begins with 18 km downhill ride, with some steep parts( remember what you come down you need to climb). after 28Km they encounter a very serious climb windy roads through a pretty forest with lots of butterfly's ( wonder how many she will swallow) They will then be given the choice of 3 hill challenge rides a 6 km( bronze) , 23 km(silver) or 23 km(gold)............... wonder which will Jackie will choose?. AT THE TOP THEY WILL BE AT 2293 METRES. The reward will be a fantastic view over the Rift Valley
And that's before lunch
After lunch she will have a much flatter ride through a beautiful area with very little traffic.
