Jackie & Luke's Adventures
Hello everybody, well life at the fox and grapes is starting to look up. Although we are doing 50-55 hours a week and working extremely hard for so little pay. Aparently starting next week Jackie and I are being given a promotion to Bar Superviserios. Which if this eventually happens we will be gaing an extra £20 a week, but with the money also comes more responsiablity, something I tend to struggle with. Lucky Jackie is here and able to point me in the right direction. Well the pub its self is very old but it has great qualities due to its heritage. Its a pub with life and it has the feeling of a warm pub.
When we first arrived our room wasn't quite what we expected but we soon got moved to a larger and cleaner room, simple but nice. We spent about 300 dollars on it to make it more liveable and homely due to our period we are staying.
The locals here are brilliant. So many charcters among them. You have a the loud but very nice John Walsh who loves to kiss jackie up and down the arm. John Madden is a kind hearted and very wise man who brings in jim and butch( his dogs) to the pub everytime he comes. Won't bore you with all the locals but these two guys are a must for people to know about, but there is one more person we shall tell you about. Ray- 80 years old comes in every night at 9 oclock on the dot. Drinks the same drink from the same mug every time. He also is the local artist with some brilliant water colur paintings. He is just the best.
Enough of the locals. Wimbledon its self is beautiful, very rich though. I supose its like toorak but better senic views. We live in the common which is basically park land and grass area we shall take some photos for everybody to see because its better to look at than speak about.
Hello all - Jackie - Well I will fill you in about the people we work with.
Matt and Kent - recently appointed Managers, absolutley fantastic people, they have been so nice to us and probably have kept us sane over the last fortnight. They are really good and being the new managers are trying to do all the right things by the staff, I really think it will be a matter of all of us learning together.
Megan - Assistant Manager, she is twenty four and from Geelong, I like her she is not a girly girl she is driven and professional but she does like to have a drink or two - Guiness - YUCK. As she doesn't live on site we dont have too much to do with one another but she seems nice enough.
Charlie - What an absolute sweetie. Both Luke and I adore her, she is just so innocent. She is leaving us in a couple of weeks to go to uni but she will be back at Christmas.
Damien - Well he is just like Luke, loves beer and very friendly and easy to get along with, he also has a cheeky side to him. He also lives here but he will be leaving mid November to travel and go home for Christmas, he is a bad influence so I wont let Luke go out with him untill he builds the trust.
Karolina is a KP (Kitchen Porter) she works so hard and is just so sweet. She has come here from Polland with her mum to earn some good money to take home but she has spent it all! She is also so beautiful, she leaves us soon.
Teressa is Karolina's Mum, she hardly speaks english but she is so nice. We can communicate with her fairly well, just by using simple terms and sometimes a few hand gestures or facial expressions. She is wonderful and a great cook.
Demitri - Assistant Chef - not too fond of him but he can be okay sometimes.
Scott - what an easy going nice guy, he is only part time and soon he will leave us too as he has a new full-time job once he is comfortable there he will go aswell.
We are desparatley searching for live-in staff at the moment as we are all working alot of hours to cover the shifts but hopefully soon we will have another couple, a single and a live-in Chef, so things may clear up soon.
Anyway chaps we will end our journal soon, we love you all and miss you all very much. Bye!
