After leaving salvador we ventured down the coast and stayed in a few lovely little fishing/beach towns. The day we arrivedin Caravelas (where we were going to dive)the heavens opened and didn stop for nearly 3 days!! Never seen rain like it!! The sea was too rough so we had to give diving a miss...very disappointed!! Now we are in Rio de Janeiro...WOW...what a city...the locals refer to it as the Marvellous city...and for a change theyŕe actually right!!! It is just stunning, the mountains and the bays make it a perfect setting!! The beaches are great if for nothing else just people watching...we have never seen so many guys in white speedos before...the guys here are even more vain than the girls (and thatś saying something!!) Very entertaining!
One of our highlights would have been visiting a favela (shanty town) Lots of little houses' stacked on top of each other...sewage and rubbish running down the non existent footpaths...it was a real eye opener as to how the other half live, it doesn seem right that one half of the population are the wealthy, tanned, toned glamourous beach goers and the other half are living in poverty ...relying on the sales of drugs to survive (which of course they sell to the wealthy side!!!) Corruption everywhere!!
We leave Brasil today and fly to Argentina..Buenos Aires, back in the land of spanish speakers...yay!!!
Brasil has been fantastic, definately a city of contrasts..great place to visit!!
