After leaving Puerto Madryn..and enjoying the wildlife...Southern right whale, elephant seals, sea lions, magellan penguins, we ventured down the 'southern most city in the world'..Ushuaia!! Absolutely stunning down here..we're surrounded by mountains, lakes and loads of trees!! Much cooler though we've replaced the tshirt and jandals for jacket, hat and gloves...and SPF 50!! The UV rays are really strong due to the very thin layer of ozone...humans!!!...so much to answer for!! We've done a few hikes so far..our first day here we had our initiation back into exercise...a 6 hour hike up to a glacier...no guide...or map...Kotuku had it 'sorted'!!! For over half of the hike/trek/scramble we were walking in at least knee deep snow..went completely off the path and ended up in the 'peligroso' area ...danger zone!!! All quite funny really..took our minds off our aching muscles!! Made it back in one piece..struggled the next day but I think now we've had our fire of baptism and are ready for the next challenge!!
Off to Chile tomorrow..contemplating on doing a 4 day trek in torres del paine..the south of the continents answer to the Inca trail! All weather depending as it's very changable at the moment..we now know where Crowded House wrote their song...we've had snow, rain, wind (like you wouldn't believe), sun you name it..all within an hour!!
Must go and mentally prepare for the 5am bus ride tomorrow!! Have managed to update some of the photos and finally give them a description.
