We arrived in Nadi in Fiji around 6 o clock on friday 11th July after leaving LA on the 9th, so we lost a whole day! We got picked up at the airport and went to the Nomad Skylodge Hostel. It was about 6 in the morning but it was already really hot. Instead of going to bed we had a sleep around the pool to make the most of the sun. We are staying at nomads for 4 nights before moving on to Smugglers cove hostel on tuesday. the hostel is really nice with a pool and bar and on site curry house! Craig and i are staying in a six person dorm but we have been the only ones in there for the past 3 nights so we have plenty of room. Theres not to much to do here as the hostel is out of the way from the main town so we have just been relaxing beside the pool for the past few days. we have met loads of people and the nightly entertainemnt revolves around a mass card game and drinking at the bar. Im looking forward to moving to the next hostel as it is based on the beach so we can surf etc. Fiji is a great place so far and the locals are really friendly and always greet you with the traditional fijian welcome of Bula. Its funny seeing the queens head on their notes and coins and lots of british influences exist here. we are going to the islands next week so will keep you all updated back home .
After the first four days we went to smugglers cove. This was based on the beach so was in a much better location and alot busier than the previous hostel. We went to the local golf course and wont be going again as we lost about 10 balls and gave up after about 7 holes. Theres not much to talk about until Sam came out and met us on the 24th July and this is when we started the Feejee Experience. This a tour around the main land that last four days. We jumped on the coach on the first day and met the rest of the group and headed into Nadi town. Here we had to barter for our traditional Fijian Sulu (sarong) which we had to have to wear in the villages we were going to visit.
We went to visit a village in nadi, wwhere we all had to put on our sulus. Craig liked wearing a skirt! Here we saw the traditional bure ( a fijian house). It was quite basic and uncomfortable. They dont have beds and all have to sleep on the floor. After the village visit we headed off to the famous sand dunes. They were pretty steep and on numerous occasions i ended up with a facefull of sand after sand boarding down them. See photos for pics of me falling off! That night we stayed in Mango Bay resort. There wasnt nmuch going on here apart from Kava drinking and more fijian dancing!!!
Day 2
Today was the day of the jungle trek! A 3 hour 11 kilometre trek through the fijian jungle ending up at a waterfall and river tubing. We started about 10 in the morning and it was already really hot. Once we started it was really good fun and the views were amazing. I nearly killed myself a number of times
