Day 39 10/11/09
Early the next morning we caught a bus to Cusco from where we would begin the Inca trail.
We arrived in Cusco during the late afternoon. With no real time to explore the city we settled into our room before a meeting about the Inca trail and receiving our duffels.
After the meeting we headed out for Janey's birthday. The restaurant we went to was just off the main square. It was brilliant! Roland had organised a private room for us and it was decorate with balloons and streamers for Janey's 29th. The food was superb I had an Alpaca Steak with two creamy sauces. This was followed by cake. After dinner we headed to the other side of the central square to a small club called The Lak. On entry to the club we received a free drink and again as soon as we sat down. Thus soon I had two vodka lemonades sat in front of me. For some reason I began to feel incredibly tired. For this reason I joined the first group to head for our hotel.
Day 40 11/11/09
Today I had a free day before we began the Inca trail. This day involve making everything ready for the trek. This meant that I had to go in search of a camel bak, insect repelant and gloves. They were all really easy to find so I was back in time to drag Chris out to lunch and to ensure that he got some food in him after 3 days of being ill. We went back to the same restaurant as the night before and had its set menu which fortunately Chris's stomach could handle. After lunch we headed to the Inca museum. It was quite interesting but it would have helped if more of the displays were in English. After the museum we headed back to the hotel as Roland had to explain the options for the next day.
Once we had decided to take the longer route we split into two groups for dinner. The majority of us headed to a restaurant called Fallen Angel. It was a spectacular place. The tables were bathtubs converted into giant fishbowls. On the walls there were flying pings, in the central courtyard a giant chrome statue of an angel. The food was equally quirky and I had chicken satay spaghetti which was pretty good.
