From Vientiane I took the night bus down to the Four Thousand Islands, right at the bottom of Laos in the Mekong River. The night bus was not the best, not only am I not suited to any bed buses, I'm far too, tall but I was also wedged in next to a Laotian, and we trailed another bus with a huge flashing advert for most of the journey fun times.
Once I reached Pakse I had some breakfast and got on a smaller bus down to the islands. This was far better and I managed to meet a great bunch of people who would all be on the island with me for the next couple of days. Thanks to this when we arrive at Dhon Det the smaller of the two larger islands I was able to share a room with Barney which meant it cost next to nothing. That day, I just rented a bike and explored the island, I only got lost once. The highlight must be the waterfalls, which although not huge, likes say Vic falls, are still impressive due to their intricacy.
The next day I joined the others for a booze cruise along the Mekong. Great day, a bbq lunch on a tiny island, then a float around the water before jumping in tubes to watch the sun go down. That evening we all crashed in one of the restaurants played a bit of pool and just had a great time.
The next morning everyone was off some down to Cambodia, I to Bangkok. A long day of travelling in which nothing exciting happened apart from getting a little lost at border control thanks to the large stretch of unmanned no mans land.
