Alice Hi guys!! I'm sat in an internet place at the moment overlooking totally white sand and the most turquoise sea. VERY nice! We're on the Island of Koh Tao at the moment...staying in this cute(ish) bungalow on one of the islands south coves. I say cute(ish) because the toilet is a bit gross. We have to pour water down it for it to flush...ew. But i guess at least it's not a hole in the ground! Cambodia (Siem Reap) was the best so far i'd say, i loved the people there and Angkor was incredible! We had this tuktuk driver who was the kindest little man, he'd do anything we wanted...offering to drop us off at bars in the evening etc. which clearly most drivers didn't do. He passed us on to his friend, another driver in Phnom Penh who was no way near as good. I think he'd been told about the tip that we gave the first driver and made no effort to help us or show us unusual things in the city. Ultimate chilling to come on these islands...tomorrow i start my open water course (proud luke?), looking forward to it greatly! then when i've finished that we'll probably head to Phangan to chill a little more. For J's birthday we're heading to a comedy club in Bangkok and the it's goodbye thailand! Sorry i haven't been in contact in a while, like you say mummy "no news is good news"! Mummy and Uschi Hi Alice and J, Uschi and I have just had a slide-show of all your pictures. It looks really great and fun. You are so lucky being able to stay with Richard and give you a chance to acclimatise on your arrival. I can imagine, Alice, how much you enjoyed being with the children - it must have reminded you of being at the school in Namibia. Cambodia looks really unspoilt and we were really surprised to see no-one else there at the Angkor Wat temple site. Glad to see that you are obviously feeling better and hope you got my reply text. How long did the tummy upset last? What is the food like - the table of food looked very good. I hope there is enough fruit for you! What are your next plans? I must get a map out to see exactly where you are. The week since I have been back at work seems to have flown. I played tennis this morning, after ages of not doing so. Grandad Pitt Hello Al and Jamie We have just enjoyed viewing your pictures from Cambodia for the second time--almost feels as though we were there with you looking local people, their homes, their day to day activities, and in particular, the ancient statues and buildings which I would guess to be at least seven or eight hundred years old. What is also pleasing is that you are apparently able to take in these experiences free from the crowds of tourists which are often found on the popular circuits. The local children seem to be most friendly and are a great addition to your collection of pictures. Many thanks. Continue to enjoy your adventures. Grandad and Grandma.

J Hi Mum, glad you enjoyed the pics. The temples are actually from the 10th to the 13th centuries.. ANCIENT! Really enjoying Cambodia.. more than Thailand by far! Mum Hi, Jamie and Alice! What a superb set of pictures from Cambodia. I was wondering which of the various floating buildings was going to be your hotel, but the photos suggest you found one on solid ground in the end! Angkor looks amazing - I suppose it was built around the same time as our mediaeval monasteries but didn't have a Henry VIII knocking it down later (though someone must have had a reason for decapitating all those figures - can't just have been to provide you with witty photo opportunities!) Daddy Hi there Alice and J, You seem to be having an amazing time - I especially liked the elephants and glad to see that the helmets are, at least occasionally, being used on the motorbikes. Luke had a really good first day at work; he already knew some people, but seemed particularly to like the members of his team. Vanessa seems very pleased with her new flat now that the settees have arrived and the dining table is in. Nicole is in Amsterdam for a few days and, like you, managed to get a message to Luke on his first day - much appreciated by him. He has probably texted you. We are leaving Carngowil tomorrow, Saturday, and just doing some final pruning and burning. Weather is still good. Did I pick up that Vietnam is out? Hopefully Cambodia will be OK. But Thailand seems to have masses to offer even if you can't go there. By the way, your talk of the baby elephants reminded me that we saw seals and their baby white pups on the beach the other day; Vanessa was bowled over by the sight. Love to you both Daddy x()x()

Grandad Pitt Hello Al and J Lovely picture show, better than the Palladium and much cheaper!--you lucky people!! Grandma and I have enjoyed sharing your experiences from afar, and in particular, the elephant pictures that came over so well; quite a delightful group of photos. I`m feeling quite envious and feel that, if I were about sixty five years younger, I would be inclined to acquire the backpacking outfit and book on the next flight out! The last time I was in that part of the world was in WW2 at the expense of the Royal Navy and I can see from your pictures that so many great changes heve taken place, though I have no doubt that, as active tourists, you will still be able to find and enjoy places where little change has taken place. Looking forward to further news and pictures, Grandma and Grandad xxx

Granny I. Great to have all your pictures, J and Al, - particularly loved the "baby monks"! I visited some amazing villages when in Chang Mai - lovely people. We also had a vaery good guide who pointed us in the right direction for good shopping - (not the usual rubbish) and my friend made some very good purchases in the jewellery line. Sorry you can't make Vietnam - they are so unhelpful withvisas, but hope you get to Cambodia. All the best, enjpy. and love from Grannyxx.
