Its hard to put into words the past 6 months. When I think about the amount of people I have met, places I have visited and activities I have done its so hard to put it all into words. Travelling and being independent really changes you and makes you realise who you are and kind of who you want to be.
Australia brought about a large range of new friends from all over the world. The life of a student in brisbane was never boring. With so much to do all the time and constantly so much to see life was always busy. I really enjoyed travelling melbourne and sydney. Although i havent seen all of australia the parts i have ive really enjoyed! Ive been busy livig life with work, uni and sports all takig up a lot of time. As always I love having a busy life and wouldn't have changed hoe it went. I really did make great friends and having them leave really made me sad but as always life is always moving and have to be prepared for change.
So my travel restarted in new zealand and wow what an adventure it was. Starting off in Auckland and getting on a random orange bus was definitely not putting me in high hopes. Maarten and i had already become less optomistic with the constant rain and the lack of activities in the biggest city In the country. We walked round the city, up mt Eden and to another island. So we were on an orange bus and off to collect other people. along the way I realised this was goin to be an incredible experience. a group of foreigners from different areas of the world we travelled a hell of a lot in the first few days and really got to know each other so well. Some of the people I met will probably be friends for life. The times when people get off the bus and the constant meeting new people was incredible and exhausting.
Aukland is alright - interesting for a day and then gets pretty bleugh.. So got on the stray bus and started off with so much driving to places and stops for toilet and food (we cooked ourselves - save money). Did so many hikes - Literally NZ is beautiful just so much to see and i mean so much to do. We went to Waitomo caves and i did tubign in caves which was actually insane, that night we went to a Mourea home and learnt so much about culture and history. I think that was probably my fav day overall. People were constantly getting on and off the bus so at Rotorua a lot people got off so was sad but i mean a lot of people still getting on. At one of the places we stayed called Blue Duck went on a few hikes and was pretty drunk the night before so nice hike to cure a hangover. Big day was the Tongariro crossing which was actually pretty tough. decided to jog the way down and it was actually really good and really glad i did it. A few people did mt doom but crossign was enough! I think Wellington would be my fav city in NZ when we went to the "windy city" was calm and boiling hot. Was pretty sad cause good mate left the bus that day as i carried on to the south island.
So the north island in gorgeous but the south is something else. I was pretty excited cause I saw my friend who I met in America and hung out with her for a few hrs before travelling to a strange place called Blackball. Some of the places I stayed so strange but i still think experiences are made by the people your with. The people I was with really were awesome! So one of the next places we headed off to was FRanz Joseph which famous for glaciers and i decided not to go on them cause of cost and instead went around them and on a few hours walking. Loved it in FRanz cause i met up with another friend who id done camps with in ENgland and just always good seeing home people when your away! In Wanaka I saw the hobbit which was in this crazy cinema where there were couches and cars to sit in! ALso there was a break in the film - weird but ye good film and had to see it in NZ!
Queenstown was just mental - In Franz I won my bungee and decided to also do a massive swing. Adrenaline junkie Queenstown was great for partying and just crazy fun but was gutted cause had to say goodbye to a lot of friends I had met. That was the point that NZ felt was in 2 journeys - I carried on a different bus and driver to Mt cook and all the way to Kaikoura where I lost my fishign virginity! OMG fishing was so fun! I caught so much and we went back to the guys house for food and alcohol was a good day! So xmas day was approaching and I decided to spend it in Wellington with a few of the girls and was really cute. Obvs not v into xmas but spending it i nhte park / on beach in 34degrees weather was pretty sweet! The trip back to Auckland was tiring and leavign at 6.30am never easy but getting back to Auckland did washign adn made a few friends to spend my last days with!
So the places I visited was just so many, it was quite difficult spending just 1 night and constantly go go go but in the end it all worked out. I worked out I couldn't stay somewhere except queenstown and Wellington for extra time but that didn't matter - I really loved my stray experience. The hikes, white water rafting, tubing and caving and seeing glow worms, seeing glaciers and icebergs, bungee jumps andbswings, fishing climbing the tongariro crossing, seeing the hobbit, going to the beaches and going out and spending time with such awesome people. I managed to see friends along the way and it really makes you realise people who youve maybe not seen in years are still there at the end of the day! I really hope this will apply with people I've met on nz and the rest the world.
All the drivers I had were really great.I really valued their knowledge and company. Its crazy to think this is their job and I mean the amount of people they meet constantly and helping people see and do things they can only dream about. It must be tiring but they really did make the trip what it was.
As a person I really believe travelling made me so much more aware of my decisions and independence. I'm 21 so I'm still young and really do have the world in front of me. I know I've made decisions which perhaps wereny the best but in the end all mistakes and experiences make me wiser and who I am today. I'm so lucky to have friends and family all over the world who will be there for me and can't wait to see them again. However I have 6 more months before that will happen. Next step Fiji and NY and I can't wait to see my ex-housemates and enjoy a new country.
