Shine ya boots guv'nor, tally ho, pip pip, Bernard's your uncle and all those things the poms say regularly. A brief stopover in the mother country was in order as part of our ticket round the world and it was our second visit since '07. The cold was quite oppressive after the sub-tropical heat of Rio, going from a top of 31 degrees C touching down at -1 degrees C at Heathrow! The thermals were out in force but our short stay with Mel in Greenwich was over all too quickly... Until a traffic accident on the A4/M4, the main road to Heathrow, soiled our well laid plans and suddenly getting a hire car felt like a bad decision. What should have been a 40 minute trip, 5 hours later we made check-in by a matter of minutes but still had to return the hire car. A tip for young players - HEATHROW is ENORMOUS! Long story short, we missed our flight to Dubai. British Airways were kind enough to rebook us for free the next day. After a tough day, we decided that it would be appropriate to spend the night at the Sofitel - it was only fair.
On the plus side, the universe has declared this the end of our bad luck after our mastercard being eaten, our phone pinched and now a missed flight. Still nothing has dampened our spirits so far, c'mon Planet Earth, take your best shot!
