So after a long night on the uncomfortable sleeper bus, we went in search for a place to stay. Through the streets of Hue we were being stalked by vietnemese trying to offer us a room in their guesthouses. We were eventually convinced by a guy whos hotel, supposedly, had a swimming pool. Picturing a cool fresh swimming pool we followed him for what seemed like ages, spirits high thinking that we were gonna have a cool down in the pool... the pool was not exactly what we had expected... it was a pool but a GREEN! pool. Stunned we were assured that the pool would be cleaned by the end of the day so we stayed.
We met a couple in Ha Long Bay who we travelled down with: Nicki and Joe, so we decided that we would stick together. Thinking we should get the cultural thing out the way we visited the palace which had been slightly damaged by the americans during the war. The day was so hot that after a few hours we returned to the hotel. We decided to cool down by jumping in the pool even though it was still bright green, the water however was warm. No chance of a cool down after all.
The following day we had a slow boat to ourselves, floating down the river towards the tombs and the pagoda before hitting the market in the afternoon. After dinner we stocked up on some bottles of Vodka and had a few games of cards at the hotel with our brothers and sisters! At about two in the morning, and after a few empty bottles we crept quietly, or so we thought toward the green pool. Not hard to miss as it was illuminating brightly. Not long after we were having a deck chair thrown in to the pool at us by who we think was the owner... He missed!!
Having outstayed our welcome we decided to try our luck at our next stop of Hoi An.
