We arrived in Bangkok late in the evening after an excellent couple of days in hk. We got to our hostel which was a big step up from were we stayed in hk. Located just off Khao San rd the epicenter for backpackers. The following day we decided to head out and see some of the temples when we got talking to a friendly local. a friendly local who we would soon learn a valuable lesson from.. if the form of scam artestry.. we were told that on that very day the goverment were promoting tourism and were paying the tuk tuk drivers their fuels costs... WOW we thought great.. and that also one particualr wat (temple) was open only one day a year.. and guess what.. it was our lucky day... so with out new found luck and a willing tuk tuk driver we all headed off on a sight seeing tour... we soon grasped that it was alittle shady when we started to visit suit shops and a travel agent..!! that was it.. we stopped at the next wat.. and told them we were off.. to which they replied that hadnt got enough fuel tokens..!! HUH... ?? so we paid up the "cost of a token" prob about 5 times the amount it should have cost and walked (trecked) back to the safety of khoa san road..
the next few days in bangkok consited of visiting the grand palace.. walking around the markets and enjoying the night life....
we booked our tickets to head north on an overnight bus to chaing mai.. where we would have a 3 day treck..
