The capital, well its fairly big i suppose. a bit over a million live here but its certainly not up to much. they still have horse and cart collecting rubbish, int eh cirrty centre and buildings are clearly very dates. apparantly montevideo was built on teh beef boom of the 50s which clearly shows.
we had two nights here, thrusday and friday. as you can imagine there isnt a great deal of nightlife but as it runed out we had a couple fo good nights.
during treh first day we went down to the beach area which i would imagine is pretty nice int eh summer but far too cold at the omoent. had a walk around and found a dead chicken with its head in a bag of popcorn. couldnt really work out what that was about but everyone still took photos.
went for some lunch which was disgusting. they are cheese obsessed. i got a pizza which was badialsly a piece of bread with 8toppings on and a kilo of cheese melted over the top.mmm
went out for a meal together that night and then a few of us stayed out for a drink or two or three. turned ouit to be a really good night and got to know each other a bit better. the group are nice enough but fairly miserable on a whole. started in a bar that was showing lord of the rings and was called pony el praserno or something like that. eventually worked out that its the prancing pony and that why they have lotr on the tv.
ddecided it was a bit rubbish here so made it to the irish bar which had a live band on. turned out ot be really good astmoshpohere and they were playing all old british/american songs which asd we got more drunk got more and more appealing ending with us banging the tables and singing along. the band loved it and dedicatewd a kiss song to us at the end even managing the gene simmons tongue wag. went across the road to the club that was pretty busy. teh music was argentinian which wasnt really to our taste but we met some fun people and the band were there afterwr their performance so where lovin us too.
i met this girl that had been in school in teh states since she was 15 so her english was perfect, in fact youd think she was from the states. very interesting, turned out to be mainly just cos she was so drunk but she was every political persuausion under the sun yet she was an anarchist, hated the establishment, anti-semitic lesbian. some fun conversations were had but it was most entertaining when andrew got involved. no toleration there so they some how managed to end up arguing whether england was more dangerous than the fovellas? what sort of an argument is that?
the best comment yet was when in teh taxi she apologised saying in an american accent "you should know that 90% of what i say is ironic or sarcastic and i dont mean it". andrew just replied in his best yorkshire with "you should know that 90% of what i say is just grumpy". brilliant, i nearly wt myself!
anyway, we exchanged numbers readless and arranged to meet up teh following night as she told us about a club that was more underground.
everything got a bit silly back at the hotel, a bit like being on a school trip. i got in a wheely bin and andrew but me outside teh girls door and knocked on it and left and that sort of thing. think we annoyed a few poepl int eh hotel but it was all good fun.
the next day we pretty much slept, well i read sharon osbournes atubigraphy and andrew slept and then we got up and saw teh city proerply during the day, getting some pics of teh csquare etc. decided a mcdonalds was needed so we got two and teh nwent back to the hotle to meet the others and go to the cinema. found a cinema that showed shrek 3 in subtitles so that turned out to be pretty funny. afterwards met up with Lau fromt eh night before and just me and andrew went to the club. had a really good night chatting to some more locals and there were a couple of her friends that spoke really good english as well so that was good. and then got back to the hotel for the bus journey north to Salto which is where we are now.
