so afgter nimbins i decided i wasnt really going to hang around in byron, i wanted to get to sydenyey and short of surfing ithere wasnt anything i desperately wanted to do. spent the following day on the beach with a couple of poepl id met on the nimbins trip and then got a call from someone id met further up the coast asking if i was still in byron as they had just arrived on their own. so thats how i ended up staygin two extra nights and doing a two day surf school.
turned out to be a good decision, had a good couple of nights and the surfing was pretty funny, although not my most talented two days!
we all watched the sunset on the beach and decided it was time to play drinking games before we went out, not the best idea since we'd been on it all day at the beach. by about half nine, ten i went for a lie down before we went out, woke up shivering at half 2 in the wrong hostel nevermind dorm, had to walk all the way back through town to my hostel in teh freezing cold. turns out everyone had done the same, one guy fell in a bush and woke up at a similar time as me, he girflfriend ggave up looking and went to bed, another girl woke up at half 12 and couldnt wake me so went to bed and the so on and so on. saved some money i suppose.
began the surf school the next day, i wasnt terrible but i wont give up the day job (not that ive got one) i managed to stand on my thrid attempt and by the end of the two days was stadning more than falling but its still far too frustrating for me. if when you fell the wave waited for you to get back on and then when you'd finished there was a lift to take you back out id be fine.maybe thats why i liked skkiin so much, the slope doenst go anywhere and you dont have to walk back up, perfect!
anyway, it was a good two days and at least i know some basics, maybe hire a board in rio and give it a whirl there. and on teh first day thert were two dolphins riding the same waves as us so that certainly made it all worthwhile.
fInally made it out that night that night and went to the famous cheeky monkeys, although i think its famous more because there isnt really anywhere else to go rather than being that good. its all table dancing as there is no dancefloor area and they play a whole load of crap but it was a good laugh and a pretty good night in general. when we al got chucked out, there are wardens ont eh street making sure you dont step on teh road until your two blocks away from the club, are you not going to get run over on the road there?
A pizza bread and chicken chilli and mango pie from teh bakery later and we were back at the dorm, lasted till about half five which gave us just enough sleep for the final days surfing.
got the the bus down to sydney that night
