Whales, a rainbow, a glorious sun set and clean knickers! Just another day in Hawaii well Maui actually!
I even spoke to a few people today there was Rhonda on the Whale boat, a couple next to me at dinner from Portland Oregon - note to self look up where that is! A lady from China and her chap from Korea. So my day started with a lovely breakfast this time there was no nuts in the banana bread she must have noticed that i picked them all out yesterday!
I then asked to do some washing - i got a very blank look .... After 10 seconds... Carrie the host realised I meant laundry! I dont think i mentioned the guy at the airport who looked at me blankly when i asked for car hire - i quickly corrected myself to car rental and he got it straight away.
After the laundry was dry - the machine was a super size so i practically emptied my whole case in it! I headed off with the intention of driving up the coast - i got as far as the farmers market at the end of the road so one pineapple scone purchased I was on the road !
I drove past a massive pond and nature centre but couldn't access it from my side of the road so one to read about in the lonely planet. I then drove a bit further yes with the roof down and found what I thought was a quaint harbour with a craft fair - what a find thought me until i walked up some stairs and saw there was another car park for about 300 cars! It was also the place of the island aquarium!
Whilst here I noticed the pacific whale foundation a not for profit charity that uses its tourists trips for research of the whales who live in alaska and come to Maui, after the lady convinced me that they had never not seen a whale I signed up! She was right they didnt let me down wow the hump back whale weighs the same as 7 elephants and is as long as a bus!
I took 120 pics some of the sky some of the land my camera must have moved when I got excited! I did get a couple of pics though. Rhonda told me she was on the trip for free but she did buy me a pineapple wheat beer !
There was a windfarm near where we were which I think always looks majestic however I did have to bite my tongue when someone shouted look at those windmills .... No, no, no!!
So after my unexpected whale spotting I stopped at a couple of beaches just to have a peek! And it was then I spotted the first rainbow in the hills, where I was it had been sunny/windy all day!
I eventually got to Lahaina a small tourist town with lots of shops, bars and restaurants. It was great strolling around, i watched the sunset and did a bit of shopping. I am now the proud owner of an amazing wave canvas it is being sent home :-)
I had a lovely dinner and then drove home in the pitch black - i dont like driving in the dark!
Tomorrow I am leaving early as I am meeting sharkey at 8 for a surf lesson!
