We had no definite plans for today so we asked Genevieve at our B & B in Ballycastle what she would recommend. She directed us to the Laurel Villa Town House in the town of Magherafelt - www.laurel-villa.com. This lovely B & B pays respect to the poet, Seamus Heaney, Irish poet and writer. The walls are adorned with copies of his many poems. Seamus was the recipient of the Nobel prize in literature in 1995.
He was born in the nearby town of Castledawson. The owners of this lovely home were welcoming in spite of the fact that the weekend saw them hosting a poetry festival which honored and paid respect to the poet who passed away earlier this year. We enjoyed several conversations with Eugene, the owner of the home who is also an historian and genealogy buff.
On our way from Ballycastle to Magherafelt we stopped in the town of Dungiven. We revisited the town library which is now housed in a wonderful new location. We also stopped at the Dungiven Castle. In his earlier genealogy pursuits in Ireland, Rusty was hopeful that his relatives were from this town but further research did not indicate this was true.
