We got up early because I wanted to do the Hobbiton tour, and it would take 3 hours which was a substantial chunk of the day. We arrived at Matamata 5 minutes before the i-Site (tourist information office) opened. I was first to the counter and bought my ticket for the 9:30 tour. Brett was not interested in this tour, so I tasked him with resolving our internet issue.
The Hobbiton tour was really good, and included a beer at the Green Dragon, so I was feeling very happy and mellow by the time I got back to Matamata. If you are not interested in Peter Jackson's movies, but you like gardens, flowers, farms, outdoors in general, it is still a great tour. Our guide Kelsey advised us that 30% of the tour participants had not seen the movies. I was not the only wife who left her husband in Matamata while we did the tour though.
Brett had come good with the internet. A girl in one of the phone shops basically just pulled it apart and removed the battery, then put it all back together again and it worked. Fingers crossed it would continue to work!
We did a little shopping to top up our supplies and got back on the road again. There was only one range to cross this time, and we were on highways the whole time. We didn't stop until buying fuel in Whaketane. Brett really likes that town, mainly because of how its name is pronounced. I am not going to explain - ask a Kiwi.
We drove to the Tirohanga Beach Motor Camp. There was nobody at the office, as they were doing some industrial level gardening at the start of their slow season. The guy on the tractor asked if I had $20 - I did - and that was it. We found a site under some trees and set up camp. No other motorhomes to be seen. Brett was happy.
