Rainbow Beach is a tiny little place, and you either go there or Hervey Bay to set off on the trip to Fraser Island. The greyhound bus, after taking 5 and half hours from Brisbane (granted with a 40 minute stop), dropped us off at the street where a handful of hostels were situated. We arrived and took the short walk to ours and it was comfortable enough, although like many hostels, the air con was on a timer and didn't work until the evening.
On the first evening there, the woman from the hostel told us how if we went across the road at 8pm, food would be available. I asked if it was free and she said "of course, we would love to cook food for you all". My reply in an instant was "well I would love to eat it, so we'll be there". The free food turned out to be a couple of sausage sandwiches, but was a decent evening all the same.
That night I asked the 2 girls in our room if we were to set our alarm for the morning. They said how we were due a massive lie in. As it turned out, I automatically woke up at half 7 and then played my part in eating all of the free breakfast available. The 2 German girls at breakfast who I spoke to were on about just 'chilling' by the pool all morning. By the time I got down to the pool, the 2 Germans had nicked my sun lounger, somethings just never bludy change eh?
We had our briefing for Fraser Island, and those 2 videos we watched nearly sent me to sleep. The woman (who looked like the local drunk) who was in charge said to us all how the trip will be alot more enjoyable than the videos......"I bludy hope they will be" I replied. The videos just spoke about the dangers of driving on the Island and how we should all be weary of the Dingoes.
We got split into 3 groups for Fraser Island, and for some reason I was split in a different group to the 2 girls from Nottingham who I travelled from Brisbane with but I didn't mind, as everyone will no doubt mingle together by the camp fire (how romantic) when we all arrive on Fraser. Our little group of 6 all bought food together, and my god, I've never known anyone whine and take so long about buying some food for a couple of days. They were worse than my Mother at deciding...alot worse. They were on about which veg to chuck on the Barbie....Veg? Veg? Just chuck the bludy Kangaroo in the trolley I suggested.
Everytime my blogs mention food, I have to go cook my dinner (or get someone else to cook it for me). This is no exception, as I'm off to eat my Steak sandwich in a minute because I'm starving. I am now going to Fraser very shortly, and that is when I am hopefully going to find out what the fuss is all about.....
