Today we woke surprisingly early and felt really good after our exercise yesterday, Kratos hadn't slept well as his shoulders were throbbing but we had the opposite effect and slept like babies glad for the exercise. We all met up and headed to a new place for breakfast... We were wanting a chilled morning so found a quite restaurant and wandered in. Here we ordered some rice soup and shakes and chatted non stop rubbish like normal while reminiscing on the previous day. Not long after arriving Kate wandered in as she was wanting her camera battery that we were keeping safe and dry yesterday (she has a mishap with a not so watertight bag) and was leaving soon. Steven headed back to the hotel to retrieve it while she joined us for a bite ordering the delicious Lap, which is a minced meat and herb combination with fresh mint and coriander ...yummy!
Steven soon returned saying he couldn't find the battery and it must have fallen out when we emptied the bag yesterday. She said not to worry as she had a spare and had to buy a new camera anyway but we felt bad so headed to the river shore for a quick look before heading back to our hotel and checking again with no luck. She didn't seem to mind too much but it didn't make us feel any better. By now time was getting on and it was almost time for her bus, she left her lap as it was too spicy, said her goodbyes and we said 'see you later' knowing we were likely to bump into each other again.
After Kate had left we carried on chilling while Steven finished her lap (he hates waste... especially food) and we sipped our fruit shakes before deciding to head somewhere more picturesque ...we headed across the river to our favourite bar where we had yet another lazy afternoon. It sounds pretty bad but the place is so relaxing and beautiful that you just want to enjoy the tranquility and take advantage of having time and peace to read and chill out.
Later we headed back so Kratos could have his afternoon nap and we showered and freshened up before we met later for dinner. We headed to our old favourite 'the other side bar' and took up our usual space ordering beers and dinner. As the night went on we enjoyed some banter while people watching... And Steven food watching, mainly aimed at a Korean couple next to us that had ordered loads of food but were barely touching it. We listened to the cheesy and badly put together mash up songs while getting a little tipsy on beer and our free buckets made up of what takes like LaoLao, red bull and coke.
We were having a good laugh when suddenly the Korean couple decided to leave making Steven anxious about the half a pizza left on the table and free cocktails they obviously didn't want. The waiter had already taken the left over noodles... When I say left over I mean a whole untouched plate and some salad. Stevens face was a picture as he obviously hates how much people waste their food and money here... And its unreal how often people do. Once the couple had left Steven had decided enough was enough and went over passed me and Kratos the free cocktails and took the pizza for himself... Saying how food always tastes better when is free. We couldn't stop laughing at his cheek... But totally admired him.
After that we took the cocktails and wandered out just as it started to spit with rain... The weather is so unpredictable at the moment. We took shelter in the LaLa bar and it was the most random place, no atmosphere and way too many clothes from H&M (us included)... We sat on a platform sipping our drinks before the cutest wee dog came and joined us... He was cute and ginger and shaking all over, I initially thought he was nervous but I think he actually had something wrong with him... Was adorable though and happily snuggled up to me while I finished my drink. We then enquired about beers and they were a whopping 15,000 kip (10,000 everywhere else). We declined and decided to find somewhere better, we braved the drizzle and ran to the Irish bar around the corner which was packed. The typically Irish guy behind the counter was very friendly though and although happy hour was over offered us a good deal. He was serving local whisky at 10,000 kip (83p) and his bargaining tool? He would pour the whisky till we said stop, this resulted in drinks that were three quarters whisky and a quarter coke.... Irresponsible but awesome. We found a table and decided to people watch, which as always in traveller favoured bars is pretty entertaining.
There were the surfer types playing pool who hadn't showered, shaved or changed their clothes in a while and didn't appear to own shoes, the loud Brits trying to drink as much as possible before last orders and the Asian looking girl who was gyrating in her tiny shorts and flicking her hair and lap dancing anyone who would look at her... When this didn't work she just started dirty dancing with another girl in the hope of stirring the guys up. Unfortunately for her she only stirred up a guy old enough to be her father (who for some reason had a piece of water melon on his pint like he was sipping a cocktail) and a guy who really didn't appear to be her type.
We sat at our table chatted and enjoying the evening before I went back to the bar for refills, the bar was closed but the owner said he cold put them in plastic cups for us. We obliged and then joined the other revellers who were heading to a nightclub nearby. By now it was pouring and we felt like we were back in blighty... This feeling didn't subside when we arrived at the club after walking through what could have been a peat bog and I felt like I had found my self in a club on a remote isle somewhere. The club was busy and warm, filled with travellers and locals alike... We still had our drinks from the last bar so wandered in and found a spot. Here we chatted briefly before I headed to the bar where a guy started offering me advice on Vietnam. He seemed pleasant enough and we shared a drink of rum and coke (place again was stupidly expensive). I then wandered back to Steven where Kratos was laughing at him blatantly ignoring two Dutch girls who were trying To chat him up. Apparently they asked him numerous questions, which he answered before he turned his head and carried on chatting to Kratos leaving them standing there... Can't take that boy anywhere haha, Kratos could not stop laughing.
By now it was three am and we decided it was time to depart so wandered outside where we found a little lady making baguettes ...we ordered tuna x3 and waited. During this time our little dancing friend from the previous bar appeared with the random guy who was fawning over her. We got chatting and it turned out she was American with a fiancé away in the forces... Nice!! On that note we left and wandered home where we fell into bed where we were happy to be dry, warm and cosy.
