We woke about eight thirty after a very restless night... We had gone to bed about eleven ish as we were pooped and must have fallen asleep quickly to be woken about one ish to a party downstairs. Our room is lovely but given its a wooden building there isn't a lot of protection from noise and as we are situated directly above the common area we soon realised that. The bar is open till twelve but obviously doesn't mean the party is to end. The chatting and music carried on till nearly three and given that we had a power cut at the same time ...it wasn't a good combination. We were freshly awoken... In a room with no fan (power cut) so stupidly hot... Chuck in noise and a soft foam mattress and a result is too very unhappy bunnies. We must have fallen asleep though as when I woke again the noise was quieter and the fan was whirring.
However about four am the dogs started... They barked and barked and then barked some more, wasn't impressed. I think they must have eventually shut up as we slept a little. Although the annoyance soon subsided as we aren't exactly up early so problem really.
We got up about nine and changed before chilling on the terrace and doing the blog. By ten we were ready for the beach... Well I was. We grabbed some sun loungers and lounge we did, enjoying the basking heat while listening to the ocean. The view is beautiful and by no means busy considering how pretty it is. We laid back and chatted and sunbathed until a local boy woke us up, he had been harassing the guy next to us to buy a bracelet and manipulating him by making him arm wrestle ensuring a loss would result in the purchase of a bracelet. Soon he was bored and turned his attentions to Steven who was challenged to a game of rock, paper scissor which they drew. This however still meant a bracelet had to be purchased... It was all very funny.
Eventually he got bored of haggling and started playing with the shuffle... Then the kindle before he whipped out his phone (which Steven assumed meant he was calling in big nuts for back up) though it transpired that he was just playing snake. This had Steven and the guy next to us (from Bedford) engrossed...
We got a bit hot and bothered by midday and so headed down to Ortis beach one where the action is... Its not a long walk... Only a bout half a km so off we went. On arriving we walked the length of the strip without finding a decent place within our budget. However eventually we found a local seller who was selling fried pork rice with an egg, it was amazing and very tasty. We ate our lunch then bought some baguettes and bananas from him for breakfast tomorrow. We then headed to the shop and bought some beers before walking along the shore back to our hostel.
On returning Steven snuck the food back into the room (your not allowed to bring outside food in... You have to buy everything in the overpriced restaurant). I then resumed my position on the loungers and listened to the sea while watching a women get her legs threaded nearby... A lengthy and painful process. Steven came and joined me for a short while before he got too warm and sat on the veranda nearby instead. We chilled for the remainder of the afternoon playing in the sea and relaxing before the sun started setting. At this point I headed for a quick shower before meeting Steven on the veranda.
By now the sun was a warm orange ball settling slowly behind the sea. Be bought some beers and lounged back to relax and take some pics.... We had found a camera on the veranda so handed it in, although no one seemed that thankful or bothered but hey ho. The chilling resumed before Steven kicked his beer over and what followed I have never seen a grown man do lol... He actually whined like a child and went to stamp his feet! I couldn't believe what I was seeing haha... It was happy hour so I told him to just go and buy another.
On returning from the bar he had relaxed a little and took a perch, we then sat and chilled while the sun set in front of us... Truly amazing. As the darkness came in we reluctantly headed back to the main house to hangout in the bar/common area. It was fairly quiet so we pulled up a pew on the sofa and got chatted to David, an Irish guy we had been chatting with. He had been fishing today but hasn't caught any monsters. We debated food but I wasn't too hungry so we went and chilled on the terrace and had a quiet drink. On returning the place had filled up and there was hardly any space anywhere. I got chatting to the owner who was from Cambridge and his wife was from Ely. They had set this place up last year but didn't really have a reason as to why they chose to open a hostel or why in Cambodia.
On that note we then found a table and by now Steven was starving so we ordered some food, I had a Khmer curry and Steven a Koh Lak which he didn't actually get but never mind ...what ever it was it was tasty. The food was nice but wasn't worth the prices they were charging.... Especially when the workers and owners surround you eating huge portions of the same food.
We hung out a little after dinner but Stevens eyes were drooping and he was pretty tired so we headed to bed... With ear plugs. The bar was quieter tonight and we managed a good sleep.
