WILLKOMMEN! Ich bin hier in DEUTSCHLAND!
WOW...The flight was long and exhausting but it was a new experience for me and I enjoyed it. When we were landing in Munich, I could see everything covered in snow from the airplane (too bad it's not snowing in Markdorf). I was very confused during that flight because everyone on the airplane was German and I was beginning to realize that my German is not very fluent. =) But once I met up at the Gate with Suz and Lena everything was great! The ride from the airport was tiring and I fell asleep a few times...it's about 2 hours from Munich. But the view was beautiful. We drove by the Swiss and Austrian Alps and it was absolutely breath-taking. The houses that I can see near the Autobahn (no speed limit, by the way) were extremely different from those in America. They all look like old, medieval mini castles.
My host-family's house is actually very modern. They have a ceiling fan (which is rare in Germany) and they have a full-sized American fridge. They showed me what a typical German fridge looks like...TINY! Like the ones that you put in your dorm...It's ridiculous and I wonder how people even store food in it. But anyway...the house has 3 floors and they floor plan is VERY different from what i'm accustomed to. The first floor has the laundry room and my room along with the foyer. So I have the first floor to myself. The second floor has the kitchen, living room, and dining room, garden/patio, and a balcony. The third floor has the bathroom and their rooms. It's pretty cool and it's on a hill. I took the dog for a walk and the long neighborhood road is surrounded by mountains and little homes on hills...apparently (after getting lost down the road) it connects to the main road in the town....so i ended up walking for 30 mins down the main street (Leimbach) until I found their street and walked to their house. haha My first experience getting lost. And bumping into German people in the street can be intimidating. I didn't know whether I should try to talk to them in German or if they'd hang me for being American (haha). My host-family has American citizenship so they love America. They have alot of flags and 9-11 memoirs around the house.
All in all, i'm enjoying my stay so far. Today was my first day taking care of Tizian and I had fun...although i'm still a bit confused about how everything works around here. I haven't been able to take pictures yet but tomorrow when I go to Friedrichschafen to see my school, i WILL take some pictures and post them. I was at the train station today right next to my house. We were picking up Lena's boyfriend from Bayern. Apparently, everyone uses the train station to go from town to town. I will have to ride my scooter to the station when school starts and then take the train to Friedrichschafen. It's only a 10 min trip. The station was kinda scary. Everyone is around my age and they look pretty cool...but they looked at me when I was speaking with Andy in English. I'm not sure if that's good or not. ^^ Oh dear...we'll see!
Friday, January 11th is ELCHBALL! woohoo! My friend, Alex, bought me a ticket to go with him and his friends. It's a big concert/festival with alot of rock bands. Its supposed to be fun. =)
Ok, well love you guys! I will post pics tomorrow probably.
Faith, Hope, and Love,
Brendita
