Woken by an enormous crack of lightening which brought the children scuttling from their room to ours. Heavy rain while we breakfasted then cleared to not quite so hot. About 26. Wandered up to locals market seeing everything from rows and rows of dried fish to stacks and stacks of bras and knickers. Everything and anything one could want. Very narrow between stalls, got the impression we were mildly annoying to the locals. Back to our hotel for a swim the. Out to our little laneway bun Cha. Even better than the day before. Just delicious. Tackled shoe street with some success for all the children. More swimming and a spot of sunbathing before meeting burrowes for dinner. Beer corner was full of locals. 3 seating areas on 3 corners of an intrsection. Beer came from one corner with instructions yelled out over the street. Don't know where the food came from but it was divine and there was plenty of it. Paid 1.1million dong for 10 of us (about 60). Wandered back through old quarter bumping into Pete and Jude along the was. They joined us for a drink. No sooner were we sitting at our little outside table than the streets were cleared by the police.... come inside.... police coming!!! Not quite sure if we would have been arrested if we were outside. And everyone sits and eats on the street. Just prepping for Halong bay. Hanoi has been awesome. Not much changes, still dirty as anything but not the stray dogs we saw last time we were here. All the dogs are pets, lots of poodles. I'll never feel sorry for benji in the heat again!!!
