The drive from Arugum Bay to Ella took us through more Elephant country. It is largely flat with the odd rocky outcrop for a lot of the way then when you get to the junction to turn off to Ella the road becomes steep narrow and winding. Stopped at waterfalls along the way. Because it was Sunday all the families were out swimming in the falls. When we drove past them on way out of Ella they were deserted. Ella is largely a town which exists for the tourists. There is some lovely hikes around and the landscape is very picturesque. We checked into our accommodation which has a stunning view across the valley to Ella Rock and a waterfall when it rains. Which it wasn’t. Then walked out to climb little Adams peak. A high point in the area a stunning view from the top and you walk up through the tea plantations which are lush and green. Walked back down through the tea to 9 Arch Bridge which is as picturesque as the photos show. Waited about 1/2 an hour hoping to see a scheduled train come over but then heard the train was delayed 2 hours. While we were waiting we got caught in this enormous downpour. Managed to take shelter under a makeshift shelter until the rain had passed then walked back down the track to Ella to get back in time to watch the cricket final. Omg we will never forget that game. What a cliff hanger. The Sri Lankan’s were all supporting New Zealand.
