We have had a busy last week and travelled very long and far!
We did a day trip to borobodur and prambanan temples near yogyakarta, they were pretty spectacular. Had to get up at 4.30 for pick at 5am which was good as it meant we werent walking around in the heat of the day. It was warm enought at 6am! We were back at our hotel by 12.30 and just spent the afternoon by our pool!
The next day we set off for mount bromo, we had read alot of bad things about tours not holding up but we thought we would chance it and see how far we got as it was pretty cheap and we didnt fancy the train again. After nearly 12 hours on a mini bus with fairly crap AC we made it to cemoro lawang at the foot of mount bromo. It was a long and hot day and we got to bed at 9.30 and had to be up at 3.30 for sunrise.
At 4am we were picked up by a jeep to go up one of the surrounding volcanos to the sunrise viewpoint, it was pitchblack and very misty...i have no idea how our driver knew where to go!! after a steep climb we got there with the hundred or so other people.
Despite all the travelling and early mornings to get here, it was so worth it, the sunrise was amazing with out of this world views of the bromo-tengger park! (it was also pretty cold up here..kinda of a nice change)
After sunrise we got back in our jeep and went to the foot of mount bromo which we then hiked all the way up (including 256 steps) to the crater....this was on par with seeing the monkeys! after staying for a while to enjoy the view we walked down whilst being harrased by people to ride their horses!!
By 9.30 we were back on a bus to travel to bali...we thought it would be an easy day hahah we got a minibus down the mountains and the managed to get an executive bus to the ferry port..we were told 4 hours was actually nearly 6! but got reclining seats and ac and pillows! got the ferry and managed to not pay as the bus driver didnt know we hadnt paid! But when we got to gilimenuk in bali it was 7.30 and the last bus had gone to lovina so we ended up having to pay 5x what it should have done to get a private car. Found a really cheap place to stay and crashed!
Lovina wasnt what we were expecting, it was soooo quiet we went on the beach and no one was there, it was really more of a local village. The beach was black volcanic sand and the water abit dirty. We also got hassled alot so we only stayed 2 nights. Abit of a shame as the place we stayed was only 4.50 with private bathroom and breakfast!
We managed to get a really cheap deal in a private car to ubud where we arrived yesterday! The drive was really nice, windy mountain roads with views of the paddy fields! Ubud is one of my favourite places we have been, really pretty and cool! theres a nice market at the end of our road and soo many temples and offering everywhere..like the complete extreme to java!
Today we have been on a 8km walk to the monkey forest...which was like a jungle with lots of monkeys (dont worry we didnt get bitten) then walked through the rice paddies and a long way back to ubud! Last night we watched a shadow puppet show which was really cool but had no idea what was going on! tonight we are going to watch legong dancing at the royal palace. I think we are trying to get to the elephant safari park tomorw and then hopefully on to the gili islands for 2/3 days!
Really struggling to find a phone to call..it all seems to be nearly a pound a minute but will keep trying! miss you alll
