7am pick up by Bangkok Day Tours (Sally and Jo) for Anzac Day Tour starting with drive to Kanchanaburi War Cemetry 2.5 hours west of Bangkok to see the many Australian and allied soldiers graves from the construction of the Death Railway from Thailand to Burma. Very moving and well maintained with prep under way for Anzac Day dawn service
Then onto walk across the Bridge over the River Kwai and catch the train on a small restored part of the original rail track including a bit built around the side of a mountain next the river using timber supports
Very tasty Thai buffet lunch then onto Hellfire Pass to museum and walk down into and through the pass (Konya Cutting) - refer the film Railway Man. To know what took place there 72 years ago made it a very moving experience. More prep for Anzac Day here as well
Then to an ok resort on the river for a swim, drink and excellent Thai meal
Early night in order as alarms set for 2am due to 3am departure to get good seats at the dawn service in a clearing at the end of Hellfire Pass
Great day of historical significance so well done by Bangkok Day Tours
Hope we wake up!
