Hello! We have now reached Rotorua on the North Island. Although since our last update we have done a hike on Fox Glacier which was very hard (5km climb) but worth it at the top! Been to Nelson where we did some quad biking, Taupo and Kaikoura. In Kaikoura we did some whale watching and saw three sperm whales which was brilliant - they are HUGE. We also saw a pod of dolphins and have some good videos of them playing and jumping out of the water but we can't put that on the site so that will have to wait! We also stopped in Wellington for a night to see the capital but it's pretty small so didn't need too long.
Yesterday, in Rotorua, we went white water rafting which was very scary! It was a grade 5 river (the hardest you can raft commercially) with the highest commercially rafted waterfall in the world at 7 metres!! You will see lots of pictures as we added some more today. Happy to say the biggest injury I got was a cut finger so came out in one piece thankfully. Our friends nearly weren't so lucky though because their raft tipped up and were underwater for ages. Ha!
We also went to a Mauri village which was interesting. They have all the goethermal activity in the village like big bubbling mud pools and craters with water boiling at 180 degrees. So it was a bit hot and smelly but we watched a Haka performance and now have lots of pictures of Joe doing the bulging eyes and sticking out tongue like they do! We had a Hungi lunch which was all cooked using the heat and steam from the natural craters which are caused when the earths crust caves in. It was actually a very nice lunch!
Anyway, will stop rambling.... we have added more pictures - sorry there are loads but we haven't added any since we got here! We are off to the Bay of Islands tomorrow to go swimming with dolphins and off to Fiji on Tuesday night! It's gone so fast!
Take care, speak soon,
Love Joe and Em :)
