What we expected to be a simple stop over city, Salta turned out to be the key point of many great sights!
With its location in northern Argentina the climate is for a lot of different fruits, vegetables, vines and meat. Anne and I got the best avocado so far - and learned that even though it's tempting to buy the really big ones, they're only for cooking.

We arrived before lunch after 24 hours in a bus, which went better than expected. First day was walking around the colonial centre and also taking a cable car to a small mountain top and enjoy the beautiful view and the dry air compared with Iguazu.
At our hostel we talked with some roommates and started to understand there is more to Salta than meets the eye.

Next day we booked day trips the coming two days. With that done we enjoyed the day with getting day drunk in cheap, delicious, Argentinian white wine with our new friend Ian from Canada. And tipsy Anne and I went to do a yoga class as the only tourists, with some pakua fighters. To the ones interested I can tell that "downward facing dog" is the same in Spanish: "perro mirando abajo"!
In the evening we went out to taste the famous meat of Argentina. We got some enormous steaks accompanied by great red wine and it tasted amazing! And after this meal I have declared myself pescatarian, so from now on my meals will mainly be vegetarian and sometimes with fish. Something I wanted to do for some time, I just needed to try the beef meat of Argentina first. Now the only exception is guinea pig in Peru if I feel like it by then.

The rest of the evening we celebrated St. Patrick's day with a bunch of backpackers. And after only 4 hours of sleep we got up and off to day trip to the area south of Salta. Here we drove through a beautiful landscape with a lot of rock formations, small canyons (like a mini-grand canyon), colorful stones, cactus and more and ended up in the city Cafayete. Afterwards we visited a local vineyard and tasted some as well. Unfortunately I can't carry around wine bottles otherwise I would have love to buy some, as it is super cheap and high quality.

The trip ended with a taste of monsoon rain, when around 40 mm came down locally outside Salta and flooded all the roads and more. I have seen rain before, of course, but have say this was eye opening in a dry, warm climate having so much rain at once and the see the ground not being able to up serve but the water just floods and try to find its way into a river, lake or something.

We have been explained they have the tradition is to honor Mother Earth ("Bacha Mama") in connection to the Carneval and give her gifts. With this amazing nature I can only support the importance of gratefulness <3
