Well, ive finally managed to make another blog entry. Always have the best intentions, but seem to spend all of time of facebook messaging ppl!! so i arrived in sydney two days ago to some much needed sun! I got picked up by my Aussie friend Andy, who very kindly is letting me stay with him for a few days. I wandered around the city for a few hours while he went back to work, trying to get my bearings. In the evening we wandered down by the harbour and i saw the opera house for the first time. Amazing by night, really felt like i was somewhere special. We found Argyle street, and a funky little bar where we enjoyed a beautiful meal with a nice drink. The next day i was ready for tour guide Andy to show me round his city. We started off seeing a catherdral, cant remember which one but it had a beatiful fountain outside. Then we took a detour to the war memorial, then to the famour Bret Whitelys matchsticks. After that we strolled along by the harbour, and to through the botanical gardens which ill def be returning to. Then to the succulent gardens, to see the rainforest plants which i really enjoyed! Next i think was a lunch stop, a healthy salad from salad works! The weather changed a bit, so wandered to Darling harbour and took the monorail back the apartment!!! Completely missed out the art museum we visitd in the morning. THought we would be a bit cultered. Lots of school kids on trips there, made me miss teaching a lot for the first time!!
In the evening we met Andys friend Nick and his gilfriend Lotta. Went for a realy nice Sushi meal. I tried raw salmon and tuna, and really loved it. Afterwards we went to Lottas friends party in oxford street (gay street!) and it happened to be halloween. We waited around for an hour drinking, but it didnt liven up so we all sneaked off!!
Thursday and Andy was off to work, so i met up with Hadley. We had planned to see Bondi beach, but he got called in for a second interview for a job he wanted so i waited around for him. Not sure how he went we went for a beer to calm the nerves, within 30 minutes he found he got the job, so we carried on drinking in the sun listening to the live bank. By this evening......6 glasses later someone was a little hammered and needed a taxi home and a kebab. Got work tomorrow, doing a days cleaning and moving so hoping hangover disappears!!
As for Melbourne. Arrived two weeks ago and got VVV lost finding hostel, with our heavy backpacks and no sleep it was pretty painful! Eventually at 10am found it, but had missed breakfast and found out check in wasnt till 2pm . so we dumped stuff and fell asleep in comfy lounge area. once checked in, we showered and promply got into bed. Waking up at 9pm feeling groggy, i got up knowing i couldnt sleep all the way through. Then met James, our Irish roomy who invited us to the bar...Hadleys magic. word!! I went for a wander around melbourne to walk off my sleep and ending up finding some buskers near by so say and listened to them. After they finished i went up to say hello, and thy invited me for a drink. Nice Aussie guys, who had given up careers for music, so got their numbers to stay in touch. Next few days spent wandering around city and up to St. Kilda to see the beach. The Wednesday was the infamous bar crawl. We all had t-shirts wiht the bars listed on us. I managed to wangle my way into the cool group, after winning a spare t-shirt in the pub quiz the nite before but giving it away to my new mate Dave, who needs two t-shirts anyway!! The crawl started slow, one drink and i was feeling v tired. So Kieron and i thought it would b a ppl watchin nite! After the 5th drink i started to wake up and challenged new mate rick to a dance off competiton!! The next bar was hotdog bar, but poor hads, after sending two diff ppl to get him free hotdogs ended up with nothing after ruth ate his...TWICE. Lucky i saved him a bite of mine! REst went down my new coast....skills!! After this it gets a bit messy. All i remember is signing lots of peoples shirts, and finding it amusing to tick all of Daves boxes on his t-shirt so he couldnt get anymore free drinks. SORRY DAVE....glad u have a sense of humour!! I defo didnt last the rest of the nite, got my self off to a subway to sober up and get home!!
Rest of Melbourne was tame in comparison. Hadley left the next day, very sad. So Kieron and I, the last two from the bus, went and sat by the Yarra River to enjoy the weather. He then left in the evening to go fruit picking so it was just moi!! I used the time to spend getting to know the busking boys, who took great joy it taking the piss out of my English ways. It turned out well, as i was offered a place to crash for the last week free of charge before i took of to Sydney. I spent the week staying up late drinking wiht them, and playing cards and then getting hooked on the tv series CHARMED in the day!! Kinda good as came down with throat think, so rested well!
Now in Sydney. Im off to stay with Hads tomrw and meet up with New Zealand ppl tomorrow ntie which is very exciting. Hope to write a blog entry again soon Hope everyone is well. Dont forget to Facebook me to say how ure all doing!! xx
