Day 2: Hmmm... this certainly beats sitting in peak hour traffic!
A quick Kopi Flores to get the heart started, then into the post-dawn waters.
The dive briefing the previous night had promised us more 'interesting currents' - these being downward currents either side of where we would be diving that, if ventured into, would push us down into the Never Never (meaning we would Never Never be seen again). How encouraging! I think I'll stick close to (& behind) Dive Leader Coco.
Out of the goodness of her heart, Coco put us in the 'sweet spot' between the Downward Currents of Death raging either side of Batu Bolong (literally Rock with Hole - aptly named after the natural rock archway standing proudly above the waterline).
A leisurely descent and a leisurely paddle to one side until The Current becomes evident, then turn around and paddle to the other side. Swarms of little damsels (the fish), a white tip reef shark above, a stately Napoleon wrasse cruising around, then.... holy cr*p - is that humungous black Manta REALLY going to swallow Coco?
Slinking up behind with all the stealth of the Ninja after which it's named, Coco is finally encouraged (by our waving arms and assorted submerged grunts, squeals and bellows) to take a glance over her shoulder - ECSTACY! It peals off to one side, sweeping towards the surface, pirouetting, barrel rolling and wafting effortlessly downwards past us into The Deep. Oh for such grace and majesty!
