Well its been a busy few days, drove up from Palmy early wednesday morning up to Mount Ruapehu and the Happy Valley skiing area. We got our skis, boots and poles and headed out into the snow to wait for our 2 hour 'intro to skiing' lesson to start. As Martin and Jane has been skiing before (albeit 17 years ago) they both went off to see if they still had the skills, to varying amounts of success. Jane skiied off down the mountain like a pro, while martin fell on his ass about 20 metres away from where he started.
The lesson was really good and I excelled myself by being the first one in the group to fall over and by lodging my ski up the instructors arse! Another good day for the Goodyer's!
After an uneasy start i began to get the hang of the whole thing and by the end of the lesson was able to go on a full run down the hill to the chair lift. After a short afternoon session of a couple of runs I really began to enjoy myself and get some speed, while still managing to look like i was out of control the whole time. After a shaky start martin and jane both got back into the swing of things and were soon leaving me behind in a blur of speed and snow.
After a tough days skiing we all decided that a hot soak was in order, so off we went to the Tokaanu Hot springs for an hour long soak in the thermal pool...Marvellous
After a lazy start we went round Lake Taupo to taupo itself for a quick snack break and then headed off to the Huka Falls walk. Was about an hours walk down the Waikato river to the falls, well its more like a canyon but hey.
Today we are driving up to Auckland today, about a 4 hour drive through the central plains on the North Island. Got the Tri-Nations game tomorrow...going to be a cracker..cant wait!
