Hope all is fine and sunny in the UK. We drove up from Wanaka yesterday morning, was pissing down with rain all day, really heavy and really strong winds, so not a nice day at all. We took a walk up to the viewpoint for the Fox Glacier, got some good views inbetween rain showers. Then we drove up to Franz Josef township and got a hostel room for a couple of nights, get some comfortable sleeping!Spent the afternoon playing monopoly and eating the free soup they provide. Not a bad way to spend a rainy saturday afternoon.
This morning I was just having my breakfast when a guy from one of the local scenic flight companies wanders in and asks if I wanted to do a flight and he would give me a good deal.. Well I got a half price scenic flight, 50 minutes for $130, a bargain. We flew over the Fox and Franz Josef glaciers, aswell as many others. Then around Mt Cook and Lake Tekapo. Was an amazing flight, real wilderness!
After a great morning me and Mads headed off to Okratiro, which is on the coast for a walk up to a lagoon. We walked for about 2 hours through the bush to get to the lagoon and walked back along the beach. Spent about an hour trying to write our names in the sand without putting footprints through it. Then on the way back we saw a seal pup come out from behind a rock and waddle into the sea, was really an amazing sight!
Tomorrow Mads is doing a skydive over the glaciers, so im going to take a walk to Fox Glacier while he's doing that, then its a drive halfway to Christchurch, either to Hokitika or Greymouth.
Will probably update this again when I get to Christchurch, so speak to you all soon!!
