So hello once again good people of the world. I hope all is well back home. I thought while I had a cheeky spare hour and I have the comforts of Wi-Fi again in my apartmet I would post another mini-update to appease those of you who I know are longing for my revered presence back home.
So, as I recall the last time I wrote we were on Hat Yuan in Koh-Phan-ang, pretty much paradise amongst all the major tourist traps and one that has left me somewhat sunburt to look as bad as ome of said tourists. But it was more than worth it. It really was a wonderful haven and one I will definitely be visiting again.
After a few days there we hopped the short taxi boat over to Hat Rin where the full moon party takes place on a monthly basis. Found a little bungalow on the cheap and met up with my good pal Pete who is out here travelling. He had some friends in tow and we all set about the merriment on the Friday ready for the Half Moon Party, the bimonthly cousin of the full moon event held in the jungle.
The night itself was immense. Buckets of samsong (Thai whisky) and redbull flowed like water and we danced like the young bucks we are on Hat Rin beach and mellow mountain until it was time to head to the party itself. This took a good twenty minutes of treacherous driving in a packed Song Tao up the windy roads and deep into the dark jungle. Then out of nowhere appears this clearing, decking in psychadelic nets and neon glow paint everywhere. It was trult a breathtaking site. So we continued the party through the night there, amongst many other Westerners decked in their war paint. The last DJ was on at 6.30am but we bailed around 6am as the sun was coming up to head back to the beach with a few people we had met along the way. This actually culminated in us barking like dogs on a rock on mellow mountain at around 7am, this was a pretty low but proud moment, its another story altogether though.
After that mammoth effort me and Walker ended up sleeping in and missing our boat back to the mainland, so we has to stay another night. We found a nicer bungalow and just chilled out on mellow mountain that night, wary of our financial constraints.
The next day we set about the epic journey back to Pattaya where i was based and most of my stuff was. It took the best part of a day on taxis, song toa's. a ferry and a night bus. (Which by the way are not that bad but actually getting any sleep on them is a task and a half!) Boredom easily sets in and when they bang the lights out you cant even read a book. Not ideal...
Having eventually arrived home yesterday I got to the task in hand of getting a job out here. (My primary aim if you recall...) Having got a few contacts from my course leaders I ended up speaking to a fella who runs a language school in Phuket. After a bit of sweet talking and a mildly doctored CV I was offered a job in Trang City, on the Andaman Coast near Krabi, which is where I was aiming for. Its only a one term contract to begin with at a very repuatable government school so I finish that at the end of February. (Just in time for teh school holidays and Tom and Laura's much anticipated visit, plus Allie and Ian I think...and anyone else who wishes to join the fun...!) The wages are pretty decent for a governement school so I will be heading down there on Friday to meet my representative, get shown the city and sort an apartment out.
The actual school is on holiday at the minute too so my work doesnt start till the 25th Oct. Hom-hum...another 3 weeks sitting on beaches eh?? Its a tough old life.
So that just about brings me up to today, my last few days in Pattaya. I'm just about to go out for dinner with Na Na who got back from Bangkok today after her Uni exams last week. Then its the next chapter, or"the next episode" as erm...whats his name? that rapper said.*
Hope you are all in good spirits, miss your bonces greatly.
* Dr Dre...thats his name. Cant believe I forgot about Dre...x
