Bonjour toute le monde,
We booked a canoeing session today on the Louire river. The centre we wnt
from is located at Le Pont Du Ce and we turned up there and got kitted out
with life jackets and a waterproof barrel to put our essentials in, then we
took a trip in their minibus up river for about 6 miles with the canoes
trailing behind.
We launched from a sandy beach and had to walk out into the Louire for
30yards or so before it was deep enough for us to get in the canoe and set
off paddling. The river looks like it isn't flowing very quickly at all but
actually it's flowing at a decent rate. The canoe school have placed red and
green buoys down the river so that you have something to try to pass through
but the guy also explained that they keep you our of the shallows and into
the faster flowing water. It's only when you get close to the buoys and
realise how much they are being pulled by the current that you realise how
fast the river is flowing. The buoys have also been cuningly placed so that
you zig zag backwards and forwards across the river making it seem a longer
trip. The trip is supposed to take 2 hours but you would have to drift down
river to take that long, we were paddling steadily and we did it in just over
1 hour and we stopped a few times to admire the view and the wildlife that
was moving about, especially the swifts darting over the surface of the river
picking up the insects.
See ya
Dale and Claire
