Day 3
24th July
Good nights sleep and woke at 7:00. Had my shower and then down to breakfast. This is not bad to be honest fried eggs some kind of omelette pizza, fruit, toast and most importantly coffee. After breakfast I decide to try and explore some of the city so armed with a map I head off. As I step outside the heat hits me and before long the sweat is running off. The first thing you notice in this city is the traffic! It is totally mad and as I find out as I walk if you want to cross the road either close you eyes and hope for the best or don't! I wander around with no idea of where I'm actually head but before long find my self standing on front of a large lake, this I decide is a good landmark for finding my way back to the hotel later. I carry on walking and it seems like no one here works as they are either trying to run me down on their mopeds or sat outside cafe's. As I walk I go past a dentist where they are treating the patients in the window, I watched in amazement as some guy is having his tooth drilled (sod that for a game of soldiers). I'm still struggling with the whole crossing the road thing and now I find that if the roads are a little full the mopeds will mount the pavement that's if it's not being used as car parking spaces. I continue to wander round and keep getting stopped and asked if I would like a moped, now those that know me know I'm lethal on four wheels let alone 2 and to drive over here I would need to be 3 parts of the wind gone I think. After a while I decide to head back to the hotel as my flip flips are starting to rub on my toes so I need to go and Change them. Now comes to the fun bit which way is the hotel???? I decide to walk north in the hope of finding the lake and before long there it is a welcome sight. I stop for a while and sit on a bench. Then off I go again to see if I can find my way back. I get back to the hotel and change my shoes and sit down and have a nice cool beer.
Whilst I'm sat chilling I meet my room mate, Roger who is from south America. We have a chat and a beer and decide to head out into the city and see some of the tourist sights. I think I'm getting the hang of crossing the roads now or maybe it's just because iv had a beer. Any way we wonder off to the west of the city and find the Ho chi Minh moralism. After a few photos we carry on walking until we get to the Botanical gardens. We pay the entrance fee which was 2000 dong each which works out at 12 pence for both of us. I offer to pay damn the expense. This seems to be the place where brides come for their wedding photos as we have seen about 6 couples all%
