G'day!!
Sparrow's fart in Adelaide, and off I go again, leaving behind my lovely family and friends in the quest for one thing, adn one thing only.......... LOVE!!!!
NOT!! YUK!!
In a quest for.... travel, challenges, culture, mustaches, vegan Reese's Pieces and the insane amount of supersized items on offer in USA.
Adelaide was nice and warm morning, even at 5.30 as we left for the Airport, but arriving in Melbourne saw drizzle and grey...
A cruizy 2 hour stopover, taking in the last minute sights of Vegemite and Bonds Undies.
Jumped on the double decker A380 beast of a plane for the 14 hour flight to LA.
I had all three seats to myself, living the life, then just as I was stretching my long model like legs out, not one, but two passengers joined me....
The strong American accent was evident immediately, but more so was the 'lazy' eye that sparked the question, where do I look? Where her eye is looking? Where the lazy eye is looking? At her eyes?
My only option was to use the Sleeping Mask and try get some much needed Z's thanks to a certain Banjo Jack keeping me up all night..
An unsuccessful sleep led me to explore the Qantas entertainment system... Movies, TV Shows, Travel Shows, Jazz...
TOUCHDOWN!! LA, watch out...
Fingerprinted, patted down, told off for smiling as he viewed my Passport photo, and in dire need of a good face and teeth clean..
Loaded up with my suitcase, backpack and overnight bag, I wandered through the airport, giggling at the sterotype American accents I continually heard.
7 hours to waste in LA involved several episodes of Skins, a bagel with peanut butter, a squeeze of Frank's Hot Sauce to remind me of Canada fry o'clock and finding a deserted lounge for a little kip.
Deserted as I drifted off, surrounded by 50 American's as I woke 2 hours later, secretly wiping the dribble from my chin.
Collected my baggage and waited eagerly for the appearance of either Mahlie Moona or H Bomb, my dear friends from Hotham, Big White and Mexico..
Raining, drizzling, through the revolving door, jumped Henri. With the muscle man, we shared the load, and met Moon outside, got cozy in the ute and set off for Vancouver, WA.
Three states in one day, what an explorer!!
Lots of catch ups, reminiscing on Mexico, Sexicans, Dirty Doubles at Big White, plans for us all and anything and everything....
Oregon entailed hanging out with Henri while Moon was at school, tackling, making Cinnamon Buns, watching TV, wishing we were snowboarding..
I visited Moon's College, what a tour...
Just like a movie set. Cafeteria, common areas, lockers, jocks, College paraphenalia and much more...
The group decision that the ute was too small, and the issue of the brakes locking led us to rent a car for the day.
Astoria, here we come!
My first official drive in USA went surprisingly well, I did expect to be a lot more nervous, and possibly crash, side swipe, or get road raged at.
Fresh snow in Portland was not the ideal weather to be destined for the sea, but the chance to see the Goondocks in Astoria was too good to miss.
The local youth were toboganning down the hill, putting on a super occa accent I asked 'where do the Goonies live' , pulled a u'ey, parked and there it was.
The Goondocks! Chunk's Truffle Shuffle was performed here...
Rugged up, we got the cliche photo in front of the house, wished we lived there, then scurried back to the warmth of the car..
Next stop was Cannon Beach..
It was beautiful. The -2º on the beach, not so devine, but the Coast was lovelier than I had imagined.
A game of chasey to warm us up, a few more photos and back in the car.
The plan was to head further South, then hit the higway to take us back to Portland...
This was all fine, 55 miles from home, then as we approaced the line up, we were told that the 9 car pile up ahead would mean the road is closed for at least two hours...
Back in the car we hopped, 55 miles turned into 110 miles, back in the direction we came..
11pm, we had made it home...
My time in Orgeon was up, craving more Vegan goodness from the restaurant Moon and I found, I settled for Peanut Butter on a bagel..
It had been snowing for 4 days, so a change to somewhere a little warmer was very appealing...
Next stop... Los Angeles (more than just the airport).
