Sounds like a great adventure. Please post more pictures and tell us about your job. Hows the weather this time of year?
Some people used to call me Nelson Mandela when he was in the spotlight of world news!

Ntate Nelson Mandella! Khotso, pula, nala uena. (Peace, rain and prosperity) You little Springbok, you. Your pictures bring back memories from 1978 when I hitch-hiked from Lesotho to Cape Town and back. Mandella was in prison, SA was under apartheid, war in Angola, etc. If you do make it up to the the tiny kingdom of Lesotho, where Patty and I met and were married, stop in Mohales Hoek and say hello to Mike Fullbright, Michael Pocock, Caswell Mpheete, Anthony Ngozwana, Mrs. Zeka and all the staff at St. Stephens High School.
A great trip is the Otter Trail at Tsitsikama National Park. It's along the Indian ocean between George and Port Elizabeth. Are you listening to the English Service of Radio South Africa? I highly reccomend tours of the vineyards around Pearl - it is great wine and great fun. Have a bottle of Nederburg.
I envy you. On New Year's eve, 1978, I watched the sun rise over the Indian Ocean at Cape Agullus and the sun set over the Atlantic that night. You should try it - then go party all night in Fish Hoek. Do they still sell hot corn-on-the cob at Table Mountain and on the beach? Have some guava juice and a mango for me.
Poverty, crime and HIV AIDS are what makes the news here but there is a lot more to South Africa. For all its problems I still love it.
Tell the next bar this VanDermerver joke that got me in a fight in Bloemfontain: Why did VanDermerver marry the pig? He had to.
Lion Lager and Castle were my two favorite beers. How about you?

Hey bud. Sounds like your having an adventure Fortier style. Just make sure that when you get stung, you know what to do. :) Could put you ahead of the rest of the clan. Ha! Looks like a lot of fun. Maybe if I strike it rich in the the next 90 days, I will ship the silver bullet over to the Cape. As for now, we are embarking upon our own adventure. Graduation is on Friday, still looking for our new 27' abode, no luck yet, but we should be off within the next 30 days, and the Eurovan may be tagging behind Buttercup. Woon it up my mal broer.
