I am now a real Teacher!
So I had my first lesson today and have another in about an hour! Wow that was nerve racking. But it was so much fun.
I set the class a simple task of writing and introductory letter, describing themselves and their interests, whilst they were doing this I interviewed them one at a time in order to get a handle on their spoken English.
My idea was that this would allow me to observe both their spoken and written english in the same fell swoop and to my surprise it worked. My timing was off and I still had about 25 minutes left at the end of the lesson which I filled by getting them to talk to me about hobbies, movies and other exciting things. The their credit they all spoke pretty good English and after marking their written pieces this afternoon I am very impressed.
There are only a few people I have worries about and they have been contacted for follow up interviews and private lessons in their week points. One girl didn't know what brother and sister meant which is a little disconcerting!
So I am now cut loose and can make lessons using materials as I feel fit. I have so many ideas it is ridiculous but I don't think that the students will be bored. I am currently editing "the Royal with Cheese" conversation from Pulp Fiction to use and scouring for songs to test listening abilities.
This is going to be fun!
