Well it probably isn't but this is our last day on South Island and everyone says it's much better than the North. And we have had a fantastic time. Often we'd think 'well it can't get better than this' and then we'd turn a corner and it did! The scenery has been just fantastic. The wildlife has been wonderful. The food and the drink has been superb. The campsites have been great - and all of the toilets are clean and always have toilet paper - even the public ones on the remotest of roads. The walking has been brilliant. The forests, tremendous. The superlatives are beyond belief and the cliches keep coming! Our 3 weeks has just flown by - not long enough by far. It feels like we've only skimmed the surface even though we've driven 2,200 miles.
When we were planning this trip I thought I would definitely like New Zealand but probably one trip would be enough. Wrong! I want to come back and for an extended period. A few days ago we met a New Zealander who had been travelling around South Island in a camper van for 18 months. That sounds like the right length of time. We passed a bus today that had been converted into a motorhome and was up for sale. I'm seriously tempted.
