How many bites have I got? Left leg - must be 30 there; same on the right, mostly on the calf; head and neck - a dozen; arms probably have 20 or so each; add another 20 for the torso and that makes...too many f**king bites!
Since we hit tropical Queensland (we literally crossed the Tropic of Capricorn about an hour ago), it's been non-stop insect action. Mozzies, well you expect them. Although these guys are different from the UK variety. There's no malevolent buzz as they near you, they just steam in, bite, and get away.
Unless you get them. Pip doesn't like it if you squash one that has blood in it, but to me that's a good mozzie to kill. It's Darwinian - leave the ones who fire blanks and we'll all be better off.
In Yeppoon, we were blessed with Aussie midgies as well. Unlike most Aussie equivalents, these guys are actually smaller rather than larger than ours. So small that it's impossible to know they are there until they've bitten you. Nice.
For good measure, a magpie attacked me while I was cycling this morning. And drew blood. Unfortunately he was too fast for me to slap him down, plus I was cacking myself - maybe those mozzies aren't so bad after all.
