Just been to Byron Bay for a couple of days and left feeling we would have liked to stay longer. From our point of view, a good playground, in the shade, just next to a child-friendly beach is just about perfect.
What makes Byron Bay that much more interesting than just another childcare location however is the eclectic mix it attracts.
We sat in the shade of a gum tree next to a wannabee Bob Dylan, strumming the blues. At the same time a dreadlocked dude, board tucked under arm headed out to tackle the waves. In the carpark a Bentley pulled up alongside a 'Wicked' campervan.
Yummy mummies sipped cappucinos before their Bikram yoga lesson, sun-safe kids playing on the slide. Round the corner, impressionable backpackers were having pictures taken of their aura, before having their Tarot cards read (Will I get into St Andrews?).
A long-haired possible biker sat in front of us in a metal helmet that looked like a souvenir from WWII, sitting over a towel on his head. He pulled a plastic bag from his pocket and tipped it up to pour a green, mossy-looking soup into his mouth. Possibly grass, possibly guarana, definitely Byron Bay.
