We made our way to the Colca canyon; an impressive 4160m deep. The deepest canyon in the world. Navigating our way around the edge of the canyon we could see dozens of wild condor circling above, some with over 3 metres wing span. I have tried alpaca steaks and carpaccio so far and very impressed with both. Last night we saw some bizarre dancing in the restaurant with a man dressed in, what he called, a Michael Jackson mask! We arrived into Cusco about 10am after a short flight. A vibrant city with lots going on. Took a tour of the city and the ancient Inca ruins. Just ate my bodyweight in pizza followed by a couple of local beers. A very cheap night though as the altitude isn't great for alcohol tolerance. Off to the Sacred Valley tomorrow. We also pack ready for the epic Inca Trail.

We navigated our way to 4910m above sea level to the top if The Andes. Here we saw lots of llama and alpaca, plus lots of outcrops of stones which various people before had left. Three stones were stacked on top of each other having buried 3 perfect coca leaves in the ground- then you could make a wish. Arrived into Arequipa about 08:30 this morning after the 10hr coach journey from Nazca. The air is a little thinner up here but isn't too bad. We explored the city (second largest in Peru), went to see a monestry in the centre. About to venture out for food in town soon. Colca canyon tomorrow- should be great!

Visited the Chauchilla cemetery where mummies of the Nazca people were buried around 2000 years ago. Important people were beheaded when they died, and the head was mummified and buried. It was thought the head was a 'seed' which would grow into a new person in the afterlife. This is also what they did to an unborn foetus.
