A half hour flight into the Amazon basin we arrived at Puerto Maldonado airport. It was a metal shed really. Met our tour guide and set off into the jungle via the reporting office. A 3 hour boat ride took us deeper into the rain forest. We stopped off several times to see cayman, capybara, and exotic birds. Also saw monkeys at the national park entrance. Passport stamped, we continued upstream on the amazon until we reached the lodge. A pretty amazing looking wooden construction set into the jungle. The rooms were excellent and one side was completely open to the bare jungle. The first night we did a tour of the rain forest in the complete dark. We saw lots of spiders, ants, frogs, and a snake plus various other colourful creatures. We also stopped to listen to the jungle crickets and watched glow worms lighting up the dark. The next day we set off early to climb a tree canopy through dense, boggy jungle. We came to a large lake which contain all sorts of animals including pre-historic 'stinky' birds, black cayman, piranha and anaconda. We stopped off to see 60m high elephant trees and brazil nut trees. I tried to climb a strangler tree... tried! Back at the lodge I played volleyball with the locals and chilled out in the hammock. After dinner we set off onto the amazon to spot cayman in the dark. A large torch lit up the eyes of cayman on the river banks- incredible!
Now at the airport about to fly back to Cusco. Clothes are very dirty and it's pretty hot. Brilliant taste of the amazon!
Back at base in Cusco- just did at 122m bungee jump! Awesome!
Going out for dinner later with everyone to eat guinea pig! Tasty....
