Today we got off to a late start. I worke up early 0530 and fell back asleep around 8 am 9:30. In fairness the villages and their priest decided to play the church bells that are 50 ft from our door at 6 am. The bells slowly increase in volume until reaching a crescendo then slowly dissipated. Taking around 1 minute. What the hell, it came back on again at 9 am and 11am. Damn villagers, must remember to heat the oil so I may throw it on them from my castle.
We got moving around noon and made our way to Red Beach which is near the village of Akrotiri. There we parked and suddenly we're following some people by a sign that say "do not enter, landslides. Huh, off we go following the others down a gravel trail. Then we're climbing over rocks to a beautiful lookout. But wait, the villagers lead their queen and king (living in a castle comes with titles) further up and then down rocks finally coming to Rde Beach. Tall cliffs and red sand. So we went for a 45 minute swim before going back the way we came.
Back to the car and off to the Akrotiri light house which is the eastern most tip of the island. Long winding road and finally make it there and park. Walk along and we are on top of huge soaring cliffs. Of course I had to wander out to the very edge where water was on three sides for a photo op, then I ran back to Dominique.
We were going to have a late lunch and then quick bite back at our kingdom but got tricked by a pastry shop by one of our villagers. They are kind people. Anyway, two pastries later we were full.
So back we started walking to our kingdom when a bus let out tourists. 50 peace sign giving, selfie stick holding imports. We had to walk amongst them to get to our castle. Thank goodness we were wearing hats or they might have accosted us. Now I know how Kate and William feel
We got back and received a gift from Mandy, our hostess which consisted of two calendars she published! Photographed and wrote with each month having recipes and tales of life on the island. In addition, a book titled "Homer's odyssey, beyond the myths which she edited and assembled. What a sweetheart.
Anyway, we just had a sandwich, two beers and was watching designated survivor on Netflix when Dom mentioned my blog
Damn, my people need to be informed
Take care, late flight tomorrow to Athens so doubt we will be blogging but you never know
